94.1 KTSO changes to oldies??

Seems they have dropped the "good music pure and simple" and swapped it with "the best of the 60s,70s, and 80s, the NEW 94.1 the sound" is what the sweeps and Djs are saying. sounds more oldies less classic rock jams. ???

It sounds exactly like 93.5 chrome now honestly. Switching back and forth they are sometimes playing the exact same song.

They are changing their imaging slightly with "The New 94.1" and have dropped "the Sound" at the end. Sometimes they preface it with "The sound of Tulsa, the New 94.1" so it's close to the previous slogan, but different.

They recently completed an extensive audience song survey, and seem to have trended a little more toward early 70s oldies since then. But the "60s, 70s, and 80s" were mostly what they played already, so it's a fairly subtle change. I'll keep listening for any more significant changes.

I also heard things like "no dirty morning shows here" and "we promise to always keep it clean and family friendly". looks like they are trying to bank on the listeners that left star 103 when Billy took mornings.

The music sounds essentially the same. Adding "The Best of the 60's 70's and 80's" at least tells the listener what to expect. It's much better than "Good Music, Pure and Simple", which meant nothing at all. But branding simply with "The New 94.1" makes me think more changes are in store. They can't go on calling themselves that. You're only new at something for a brief time, unless the music you are playing is new, which is clearly not the case here.

Please look up the history of "The New Mix 96," or "The Hot New Z104.5." ;)

I honestly think i may have liked their old playlist better. but i do like some of the new songs, but it seems a few don't fit that throw me off. It used to be more stoner classic rock vibes and now it's more cheesy pop songs. but i'll still tune in because 94.1 still has a pretty large playlist.

Yes, but Mix and Z were both playing new(ish) music when they were using "The New" (and Mix may still be). The music 94.1 plays hasn't been new for many years.

Nope. they're saying on the air "the 60, 70s, and 80s return after Christmas."

This is strictly to help people who have (STILL!) never heard of them, find them.

It's already working; was in Burger King at 81st & hwy 169 today. For months they've had the radio on Mix 96. Today, it was The Sound of Christmas.

I'll be VERY interested to see if BK goes back to 96 after Christmas... I'm guessing not, but I can't know for sure yet.

I know a station that was "New" for over 10 years (WCOL Columbus in their Top 40 heyday).

"The Sound" was one of the most positive testing station names I ever saw in audience research. Dropping that is a mistake. Since that format started in 2005, they have never spent one thin dime to market or promote it. Therein lies the problem with the station.

The problem very well may be how thin the stash of dimes is around there... remember, they're owned by a newspaper company... and as the company goes, so goes the promotion budget of their radio stations.

Still, I saw some electronic billboards on I-44 near the station advertising them about a year ago, and I remember yellow plastic wraps on trash cans at the Tulsa State Fair with their logo and frequency a few years ago, so I can't agree they haven't promoted it at all...
