94.1 Makes Huge Boo-Boo!

Friend of a friend of a friend says that 94.1 canned their PD, Pat Garrett, today, the guy responsible for their successful launch into Oldies. Pat is a very capable Program Director, really knows the music, and an all-around likeable guy. ??? No word on who will program the station, but probably Wilbur er...I mean... Tom Collins, the GM who knows everything. Look for further ratings decline on the way!!! They just don't get it. Best of luck to Pat Garrett who will be far better off in the long run! Just sell the *!## thing, Gig, and get it over with! You'll never win. Pathetic! :(
 
Pat's a class act, and widely regarded as an outstanding programmer. He'll land on his feet, most certainly in a much more favorable situation.
 
Gig, TC and BC..it all runs downhill doesn't it. Pat Garrett was the gift horse you guys never appreciated. You people have no discipline in terms of programming or sales. You are small market operators and always will be. Enjoy being less than mediocre because that's all you've ever known. Your right.. sell the place your all an insult to creative radio.
 
don't let me confuse the thread with facts but,

Pat Garrett was the music director at Majic, Campbell is the PD.
This Pat was the one from Oldies 93 and previously from Florida...

Patrick W Garrett worked around Roanoke, Ashville, Wilmington and Raleigh and now has a real job. He's also the man who set up www.wrovhistory.com (one of the best radio tribute sites I've seen, IMHO)
 
It seems that every year or so, the lame management at Davidson County Broadcasting have to do something stupid to further sabotage their station. In looking back it would appear to me that the past year has been the best year for ratings on that station EVER! Furthermore, Garrett had the highest rated time slot. A friend of mine that works in that building told me that Campbell really doesn't do much of anything and Garrett scheduled all of the music. What's wrong with that picture?

So, Gig, what format are you going to try next? You better start thinking about it now.

Well, I can tell you what's wrong with that picture. A friend of yours? Come on. A friend? You can do better than that. Besides, Garrett was the music director...a music director schedules MUSIC!!! Weird concept, I know.

A friend of mine says wearing a thong will increase my chances of winning the lottery. Think I will go slip some blue satin goodness around my hips...because my friend says so.

At every radio station I've ever been with the PD (that means program director) programs the music. A music director typically picks the songs to play. Am I right, people?
 
Having been both an MD and a PD, my MD always did the music. As PD I oversaw the process. A good MD will, along with scheduling, also, depending on format, present the new music in the music meeting. Others involved, in my experience, have been interested airstaff and various assistants. Each may have a record they want to listen to in the meeting. The PD manages the process and casts the deciding vote ( I always used to joke, "everybody gets a vote, mine's the only one that counts).
I haven't done oldies, but have done Classic Rock. Obviously, in those formats you're not bringing new music to the table. You are conscious of keeping your library fresh through rotational changes and whatnot.
Nowadays don't they just send you the playlist from corporate? Joking...sort of.
 
Yes almighty mediawatch you are correct however in the case of 94.1 TC and his retarded cast of idiots continued to ler Bob Campbell be the PD but in reality Pat Garrett had everything to do with the format flip to Oldies and it's success. Gee funny how when Pat got there the stations numbers doubled. Bob has no concept of that formats demo and has probably never seen results of a music test for any format and wouldn't know what he was looking at if he did.

TC can control everyone there because he holds their jobs in his hands. He'll have complete control over anything Bob does and TC will be programming that station...mark my words. Whatever happens to the ratings will be his doing. He's a paranoid, megalomaniac who wants to control everything. Kick back and watch the slide.

I heard that they had to make room in the payroll department for their new addition that's coming on Feb 7...the new sidekick for Bob in the morning...will Steve Finnegan keep the 10-3 roll or will another person be brought in? Makes for a long day doing the news from 5-10 on both WTHZ and WLXN and then work the 10-3 shift on the WTHZ...
 
Hmmm...not sure about that one...arent they hiring someone from off the street? If not, I wonder if Beth Ann McBride will make a return to the Triad!!!!
