94.1 Mornings Gone??

A friend just told me that the morning crew at 94.1 has been fired? Can anyone confirm?

Yeps. It was on All Access - Bob & Wendy are out due to budget cuts (and not surprisingly, gone from the website).

Who replaces Bob's MD/PD duties? Could be a step in the right direction (hate to see Wendy gone)...

Other than being sorry that two more radio people have lost their jobs in this tough economy, my second thought is who will really care? It's not like they're really well known in the market, and the station's owners really don't give a damn about the fact that they've just turned two people out on the street. I'm sure they're having to cut back just like everyone else. You can be pretty assured that no one at Davidson County Broadcasting will loose any sleep over this. Gig probably golfed this afternoon.

They'll be back on Tuesday laughing it up at everybody for believing it was true!! Good job, guys, you got 'em.

Now, it's important to remember this:

Lose= to misplace or no longer have something.

Loose= too big, ill fitting.

Please make note of this in future postings. Thank you!!! ;D ;D :D :) :) :-*

and for the first time, sniff is completely wrong. book it. document it.

Don't think they'll be back. It's over. Will be interesting to see what they eventually replace them with on 94.1. Bet they'll ask listeners for input, then do what they planned all along. Probably will just have music for now to save money.

::) ::)Well, I was going to keep out of this one, but I won't! In my opinion, neither of them contributed anything to the station as have none since the late 80's. Now before anyone jumps me and say I promised to be nice, I am! I pulled the highest numbers ever in this market in the 70's and back then we didn't even care! I think at times Bill Everhart and myself had such #'s as 28 shares..So, with that said, Maybe Cuz has had enough..I'm ready to come back and do mornings, Cheap.. That ought to whet ya appetite. Time to bury the past..Big Hal, ya got my #..Let's Bring it Back Home! RocknRoll :-[

I was just looking at numbers, and those figures are totally false. I wonder if any legal recourse is an option for those two. I was watching the video of them and it seems they went out of their way not to mention the station or say anything bad about anyone there. Kudos to them for being professional and taking the high road. Karma is a beautiful thing and a bitch, depending on what side you are on. Collins will get his karma and I have a feeling it wont be pretty.

Legal recourse? For what? The numbers DO speak for themselves. We're not talking about ONE book. We're talking about several years worth of just plain bad numbers, especially during the last year. How Bob Campbell managed to keep his job as long as you, I mean "he", did is a mystery to a lot of us. I don't like to see people out of work but if you aren't performing you are very expendable.

As for Collins, he should have been shown the door a long time ago.

Anybody? Your 2 cents?

just a note...I am not Campbell and glad that I am not! I was just wondering if giving misinformation like Collins did on local tv is illegal and if there is anything that can be done, that's all. I wonder, too, why Collins is still there. I really don't understand that at all.

Unfortunately, it's the world we are living in. Its business and all about the bottom line.
I feel terrible for anyone who looses their job, been there done that.
They weren't getting the job done in the ratings world, which is their report card.
Everyday we are seeing more and more of this... It is scary out there...

Getting fired due to poor performance is not some new concept. It happens in every business, not just radio. It's a fact of life and while you feel bad for anyone in that situation, you have to know going in that it is a possibility and you try to be prepared for that eventuality.

Football coaches with losing records get fired all the time. They are probaly great people, but that is irrelevant.
Peformance matters, no matter what the yardstick. Wins and losses....revenue, ratings whatever.

All you can do is do your best and be prepared for the worst.

Remember, Campbell started the publicity campaign about being fired and made some statements about why/how/when he claims it happened. There is, certainly in this case, two sides to the story. Any reporter that opted to cover this fiasco needed to get both sides. I believe managements side on this one because the documentation is pretty clear. The morning show has been the lowest rated daypart on the station continually for several years. It should have been put out of its misery a long time ago. End of story.

I agree. Of course I have an inside interest, but the way Campbell and his sidekick went about going public wasn't the best thing to do. If I were looking for a personality, I would think twice before hiring either.. This ain't DC and he certainly is not "Greaseman" 4 years is more than fair to get out of the basement! 4 years is a pretty long run at any station unless you command a VERY large share.. BIG APE!

Yes sad that 2 more of our radio bretheren are "On the Beach" but at the revolving door known as Davidson County Broadcasting it ain't surprisin'. It may herald the looming sale of the company by pairing down its operating costs, but nothing could be finer than Tom Collins being booted out of the industry. He's impossible to understand, even more difficult to please or translate his direction into something viable for the on air personalities to use effectively. He has no idea what today's listeners are looking for in radio, and the fact he secured the Majic moniker for this lame wannabe, shows his originality at work. Sure they had a big ratings surge when they took on the Oldies format at the demise of 93.1's oldie format, but it's been downhill ever since as sampling wanes... Maybe this is where Aunt Eloise will pop up next as Collins gets his next set of synapses firing! This way Tom will have a drinkin' buddy!

Tom definitely has some issues within himself that bleed into how he treats others. I'm not going to get all psychological on you crazy kids, but the man has self esteem issues and is constantly trying to "out-do" the others, rather than give them credit they deserve. Seriously, why is this man STILL with the company? A legitimate question that no one can seem to answer. This guys is straight up smarm. Icky. Bleck. Beware of Tom Collins if you are working there. One day your his confidant, the next....you're a casualty of his own insecurities.
