94.1 The Beat-WQBT-Savannah

So, is this the next station to flip? The entire station is CC's Premium Choice Programming except for mornings syndicated by Radio One and middays are local. Years ago, this was a powerhouse battling E93. What happened?

They are still doing pretty good in the ratings. They will never beat E93 but The Beat is what Hot is in Atlanta and E93 is what V103 is.

Nearly all medium size cities like Savannah and Macon are going voice tracked and CC is leading the pack on that. I notice Q106 out of Macon is voice tracked and that is also a CC station.

I'm going to say Cumulus is a very close second on that, then, as they love their voicetracking and satellites.

You are correct but I just think of WIXV and WEAS and how they do still have live dj's during the day during the week. KISS, I believe, is all voice tracked as well.

I will always like live radio and real jobs in station. Just old fashion, I think Cumulus is just to dollar driven sometimes, but then I am old school. What I do know is that they never bothered to make new tower leases for their Savannah stations on the GRAM corp tower when GRAM sold to all new owners. Now if they can not agree on new leases, the new GRAM is going to disconnect the end of next week. I hear they are not looking for more money just fair terms. Who knows, but at Christmas I would not want to be off the air waiting for a late 2013 court date. Glad I am not in the middle of that mess anymore.

Sure it's easy and a savings, lets you keep name people on shift, but I just would like to see interns with talent have a shot once in a while in these med. markets, "live" it up a bit. Like I said I am just old school. Smile

WQBT announced it's getting a new Morning Show. Wonder who? 2 come to mind Quick. 1. Steve Harvey I think he may move from Magic to The Beat. 2 Frank Ski. He just left WVEE due to lack of Syndication Hinting on the way out he was looking to expand. It could be a new Network starting. OK one more possibility Big Boy Neighborhood. WOAH Glennville Hinesville http://woah1063.com Carries it now but their signal is just outside Savannah. Big Boy Failed in Savannah before though.

Heard more. 94.1 Is getting a makeover. New morning show. New old VO guy Dr Dave. New logo looks like power 105 new York 96.1Colorado springs maybe music tweek too

I personally hate Steve Harvey's Morning Show on Hip-Hop stations. His morning show is more for the Urban AC audience. Maybe Cumulus' contract for Steve Harvey expired and Clear Channel prefers him on there own Urban/Urban AC and Rhythmic stations. 94.1 still is only local during middays.

As for MAGIC 103.9, I wouldn't expect a local morning show. There aren't any other Urban syndicated morning shows to choose from though.

How many Urban AC stations can Savannah support, do you think? I've always thought the market was glutted with this format.

Most markets have 2 Urbans and 2 Urban ACs. Steve Harvey and/or Tom Joyner are the morning shows heard on most Urban AC in every market.

Donnie McClurkin is on Magic now. From what I heard CC wanted Steve Harvey for a few years and was trying to do whatever they could to get him. They want him on ALL their Urban stations. I guess their music will have to change because he will be on more Urban's than Urban AC's. I was really hoping for Frank Ski.

Is Donnie's show on only on Sunday? Most Urbans run his 3 hour show on Sunday mornings.

It was also Country years ago. Could hear it real good in Dublin. I believe it was WCHY Y 94. Then 96.5 Kix 96 1/2 came on the air.

Donnie McClurkin also has a weekday version of the show as well. In Houston when KROI had the gospel format, they carried his weekday show at first during the early evening but was later bumped to the wee hours of the morning when Coco Brother took over evening syndication on Radio One gospel stations.

In the case of CC and Steve Harvey, there are still markets where he does not air on a CC-owned urban but is on its competitor: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Macon, Memphis (both on Cumulus stations) and Norfolk/Hampton Roads. I don't see the point in radio show owners being absolute on affiliates.

Donnie is Daily now.

NEVER "Beat" E93??? Well that is plain NOT True!!! E-93 has lost to WQBT several times. Chase beat them once and Bo $ beat them as well. Now if you are going off of 12+ numbers, who really cares! The demo for both stations is Females 18-34 and maybe 18-49 Females. E-93 has had their clocks cleaned a few times!!! Nobody but NOBODY cares about the 12+ numbers that are posted for free. Secondly, E-93 really wins by Default year in and out because it is 1) heritage 2) usually first on the dial and 3) easier to write down... try it... can you type E93 or 941 The Beat faster???? Chances are that Magic will be defunked anyhow, so no loss on the Steve Harvey Show (which CC owns) by the way.
Finally, E-93 can be #1 for the next 20 years (12+), but the revenue to keep the lights on for BOTH clusters is in the 25-54 demo; so HELLO! ITs really all about WLVH, The River, Kix and and probably the CHR in the market. Before you reply to this, ask yourself "How much money can be made in Urban radio with 4 stations in a market like Savannah????
My point, E-93 can wave that #1 (12+) flag everyday! Add up which cluster has the largest AUDIENCE slice and their is your REAL winner.

HTOWLER--- by the way, a CHR/RHY would STILL fail miserably in Savannah, GA! There isn't enough audience/revenue in the 18-34 yr old demo

"Stay thirsty my friends"
