94.1 WHZQ Greenwood flip ALREADY?!?

I was in the Newberry area over the weekend where the 94.1 WHZQ signal is always good. I heard oldies the whole weekend with no ACTUAL stations liners, just a canned DJ advertsing good times and great memories or something of that effect. I know there is oldies on Majic 94 near Greensboro, and I know this is not the station. What's going on?

After listening to it further, all I hear is 'Timeless Favorites.' This is NOT ABC's 'Timeless Classics'/Stardust format that WCRS runs. It must be some satellite format, but I can't find out who distributes it or a website. Can anyone clarify??

That's what Timeless Classics is called now.

So what about the big story with 94.1 coverign the northwest parts of Columbia/Lexington, and covering the Saluda, Newberry area? Hmmm, did Peregon sell 94.1?

From what I have understood all along is that the transfer from Pro-Com to Peregon was never finalized in the halls of the FCC, in fact I still find ownership to Pro-Com Atlanta...Did the deal fall through or did Perez decide to focus all attention on 93 in St. Matthews?

Interesting radio going on in a bad radio town.

Update.......Just talked with a contact in the Emerald City and as I suspected the deal with Pro-Com and Peregon has fell through and Perez has handed both 1450 WCRS and 94.1 WHZQ back to Pro-Com and they are simulcasting AM and FM while they find another suitor. Seems Perez has decided to forgoe the rural latino market to concentrate on Columbia with his successful AM and his new FM arrangement with Miller...Got some extra money laying around there is an AM/FM combo, probably for a good price in Greenwood, SC.

I, personally like the format currently on 94.1 and hope if someone buys the stations they keep the Timeless Favorites format on 94.1 and flip 1450 to something else. I know 1450 is supposed to be a 'heritage' station and all, but 94.1 sounds SO much better...

I have never really gotten to listen to the format on 1450 (horrible signal here) but after listening, it sounds good but they could widen the variety a bit and play some more Motown, Beatles, Beach Boys, etc from the 60s, and cut back on the slow, 70s AC songs.

WHO WANTS TO TELL UNCLE CHARLIE THAT WHZQ HASN'T FIRED A LEGAL ID IN ABOUT A MONTH....JESUS, WHEN MAD DOG WAS RUNNING A PIRATE STATION FROM DOWNTOWN EVEN HE RAN AN ID NOW AND THEN EVEN THOUGH HIS WAS FAKE!
If Peregon didn't have their finances straight at the closing table, you would think Pro-Com would have still left the lease option out there just to get the power bill of that old rambling building off their back. But oh, well...now we get to hear minutes at a time of stereo pilot loss and picket fencing (thanks in part to too much not-so-legal composite clipping and a 25 year old optimod with capacitors that would crumble if you sneezed) throughout the tri-county area because the satelite feed is ALL that is on the air. I've got a folder full of clocks for just about every format under the sun and I can sit here and tell you exactly when the dead air will hit, usually after 2 min. of network. At least they won't need to "make up" any net spots...They are carrying a FULL inventory of that. BTW, do actual broadcasters read some of the stuff people on here write? It always amuzes me when people say "They should play more this, or have more rotation of that or I like the format but it seems redundant"...and usually they are making programming suggestions that nobody locally can do anything about...Why??? Because usually they are talking about a station with all their programming coming straight off a starguide in a rack somewhere. It is truly amazing that a double rack space black faced little receiver could be so responsible for single handedly destroying all creativity in small town stations across the fruited plain. I've got to finish this spot and email it then get some sleep....the Goose will grace you with his presence no more. 73's
