94.1 WIP-FM subchannels

Will they contine a WYSP type station, jockless on WIP-FM HD-2? Will KYW's FM simulcast move to WIP-FM HD-3? I assume WIP will move off the HD-3 because it will be on the HD-1. Will KYW stay where it is, and the WYSP station will move to HD-3?

With HD's non-existent audience, unless the subchannel stations are relayed via the web and/or analog translators, it's a moot point. YSP is going out of business because MMR already serves the active rock audience better, so there's no reason to continue YSP in a reduced capacity online. CBS could keep the IP-AM subchannel if they plan to do any different programming on the AM, or they could program a market-unique format for relay online or via translator (though it's more likely that they'd parrot a format already present in the market in order to erode the ratings of a competitor).

Anyway you stack it, there doesn't appear to be a market need to continue YSP in any form.

Up in Boston, CBS took away WBCN for WBZ-FM, an all sports station. WBCN was put on WBZ FM HD-2 jockless. The WBCN call letters are parked in Charlotte, NC on an AM talk station. I listen to HD at home so, it is not totally non-existent. I do not listen to WYSP so, I will not miss it. For that matter, I don't listen to WIP either, or WPEN.

Here's what I would do:
94.1 HD-2: WFAN New York
94.1 HD-3: WJFK-FM Manassas-Washington DC
94.1 HD-4: either WBZ Boston or WJZ-FM Baltimore, pre-empted with a simulcast of 610 when that differs from what's on 94.1

98.1 HD-2: KYW
98.1 HD-3: WPHT

Doesn't really make sense to continue WYSP on HD. There are plenty of regular FM stations (yes, from other companies) that people will listen to instead.

I'm expecting them to move the "Phillies Non-Stop" subchannel from WOGL to WYSP. It would make sense.

The power of WYSP-HD2 was recent.ly increaed to better cover Philadelphia. Moving KYW to any other channel would make no sense whatsoever.

I got my answer. WIP on 94.1 HD-1, KYW on 94.1 HD-2 and WYSP, the rock you grew up with on 94.1 HD-3. Did they say that you'd still be able to hear WYSP on HD-3?

No, at least not in the past half-hour or so. That's how pointless "HD-whatever" is. Even the pushers won't waste their time promoting it.

If I load a few hundred Metallica, Warrant, and Motley Crue songs into an iPod-- then attach the iPod to one of those in-home FM transmitters-- and **say** it's "WYSP"-- does that make it WYSP? At least my neighbors will have a chance at hearing it on a regular radio.

@Bill_W:

Actually WBZ-FM is 98.5 The Sports Hub. The Mix 98.5 (Hot AC) format moved up the dial to 104.1 FM. I haven't heard anything different on CBS's other stations there, WBZ-AM 1030 (News/Talk) and WODS-FM 103.3 (Classic Hits/Oldies).

Despite being a smaller market that Philadelphia and Boston, CBS didn't touch their cluster in Hartford/New Britain/Middletown. Their four stations rank at or near the top here. They are:

WTIC-AM 1080 Hartford (News/Talk) [Red Sox/U-Conn basketball and football]
WTIC-FM 96.5 Hartford (Hot AC) [96.5-TIC]
WZMX-FM 93.7 Hartford (Hip Hop/R&B) [Hot 93.7]
WRCH-FM 100.5 New Britain/Hartford (AC) [Lite 100.5]

There is a move to bring in WPKX-FM 97.9 of Enfield (CT)/Springfield (MA) (Country) [Kix 97.9] into the Hartford radio market by next year. Some people speculate that it'll be an FM sports station to compete with WPOP-AM 1410 of Hartford, aka ESPN Radio 1410. The Yankees are their primary tenant.

It appears WIP FM HD 3 is running active rock. (At 5:50PM they're playing Bad Company.)

So you WYSP fans have your alternative...at least for now.

I know that. I left out the fact that Mix 98.5 became Mix 104.1. So really the Sports Hub replaced WBCN and the call letters WBMX, WCBN and WBZ-FM all did the change at the same time. I followed all that. I'm originally from Stoughton.

You mean "to compete with" themselves? Both WPKX and WPOP are owned by Clear Channel.
