94.3 FM in Selma Is Now Changing Hands

I don't know what Grace Baptist Temple or its Preacher, Mr. Glenn King will do with this station but Translator station W232AN (94.3 FM) is now changing hands from Moody Bible Institute.

Whatever this Church and its Pastor does with 94.3, I hope they'll have success with it.

I do know, it'll cost them a huge amount of money to purchase it and then get it back on.  Currently this translator is still silent.

For those wondering, this Church is located in East Selma, on Martin Luther King Street, next to our True Value Hardware Store.

Id sure love to know what they are going to do with it.

As a translator i nthe commercial band, whatever programming it carries.. it must pick up the signal from an OTA station.

A Commercial band translator CAN NOT pick up programming via satelitte.

They also can't rebroadcast the AM station on it, as that's another FCC no no.

I wonder if they plan on applying for, buying or building some non comm FM station we aren't aware of..

To my knowledge, they aren't planning on doing that. This is the same outfit that owns WJUS 1310 AM, in Marion and has a CP to move it to Selma.

I know what they intend to do with WJUS, once they move it.

Their intents with this translator, is a different story. From what I was told by the previous owner, they want to proclaim the Gospel from this facility.

Which "Gospel" station they'll end up rebroadcasting, is a different matter.

I'll keep you posted and let you know what does happen.

P.S. Thanks for your wonderful response to this post Mr. Paul Walker. Your insights are very educational and I learn so much from them.

Thanks for the compliment RDP.

I didn't see any LPFM or Non COmm Apps that would seem to fit them... so my best guess on this translator:

1.) They are going to rebroadcast an already exsisting station. If they put the recieve antenna high up and remote that signal back to the translator, anything is possible.

Now, here *WAS* my thinking on the Non Comm.....

File for an LPFM somewhere in the immediate Selma area. Have this translator rebroadcasting that LPFM.

What would that LPFM be rebroadcasting?? WJUS 1310!

Don't say no, it's been done before. There's an AM station in Indiana, owned by a chuch with a less then stellar signal; they have an LPFM under a different name that rebroadcasts the AM signal.

Now, of course the LPFM couldn't be commercial but Im willing to bet if this station goes on to "procalim" the gospel... they'll go non commercial.

Just my two cents..I know someone will disagree with me.

i'm pretty sure a translator cannot rebroadcast an lpfm when i have time ill locate the answer if no one has done that by then

I'm not sure a translator can't rebroadcast an LPFM......... it'd been done before, I think.

A translator can't be owned by the LPFM group (has to be owned by an individual or group with no connection to the LPFM in question), but it can rebroadcast the LPFM as long as it can be received over the air.
