94.3 goes back to Pirkle

I have heard from a very reliable source that 100.3 was the market's number one biller outside of the 3 corporate clusters from 2010-2013. Billing figures for those clusters are irrevelant per station, as Cumulus, South Central and Journal "bonus" tons of spots on their less-viable stations to protect WIVK, B-97 and Star 102. Anyone who says 100.3 underperformed revenue-wise is full of beans.
I think Pirkle should have stuck with Alternative Rock, as everybody has a pre-select on it already. Maybe he thinks simulcasting on AMand FM gives him some kind of edge, but I will have to see it to believe it.
 
100.3 may have been making money, but being the number biller outside of the big 3 isn't saying much. And as for all the bonus spots, I think you may be misinformed.
 
What knoxside said. Although I believe 93.1 and 95.7 are being used more to free up big sister inventory, and I'm more confident that it's top 5 instead of top 3. Most of them have a really strong sales system under them.

If I were in JP's shoes, I'd be tired of pouring money into a 50,000 watt electric bill and look to move as much of that as possible onto a small FM. Then again, he's got family that wants another shot at rock.

Misread that the first time, bopper. It was likely the highest billing stand-alone.
 
WKVL's morning team announced they were acquiring an FM but they will have separate line-ups for the most part (mornings will be simulcast)
 
Pirkle to take 943 classic country. Had lunch today with one of their close confidants.

Returning to "K-94" format which pulled close to a 3 in their first and last book.

Pirkle Jr. has already pre-placed self gratifying vanity ads for a phantom nomination to self publicizing "awards" show which will run months or possibly a year after the event.
 
Classic country will pull fair numbers overall, but the big question is, can you sell the numbers & demos it pulls? Even harder as a stand-alone FM. That's why the format often doesn't make it, even with decent numbers. But it can be made to work in some markets. (Chattanooga is a good example, where classic country has survived at least 3 frequency switches & a name & ownership change, but has still held on).
 
Great, looks like we're getting that crappy talk format back on FM:( And they wonder why everyone under the age of 50 streams everything now instead of listening to local radio.
 
They've been pretty tight lipped about the line-ups. I did hear Glenn Beck on 850 at 6pm instead of whoever's filling Jerry Doyle's TRN slot. One rumor has Hannity being pulled off Cumulus stations early. All references to him have been pulled off Cumulus websites including WOKI; yesterday Savage was added to the websites-again including 98.7

This!! Amen. I couldn't agree more. I really wish someone would pony up bucketloads of cash & finally buy Pirkle completely out of the market. Oh well, another useless frequency to delete from my radios. (Really though, I rarely listen to anything local anyway. I usually listen to satellite or stream what I want with my phone.)
 
I'm glad there is another choice for talk in Knoxville. The only show on 98.7 I listen to anymore is Rush Limbaugh. I can't stand HHH or the Phil Show. Heraldo is boring. Then there's Hannity's high trilly cadence which is annoying followed by screaming with Levin. For the past couple years I've been searching around for options. 720AM had a decent lineup. I liked 850AM in the morning. I really started to like Jerry Doyle. But so far, the Rude Awakening has been a much better alternative to HHH. Beck is ok. I don't think I'll listen to Hannity if/when it shows up. The guy from Nashville is ok.

I'm the opposite of seemingly everyone else in this thread. I never listen to music on the radio. I have a 30GB hard drive in my car's system, bluetooth to stream or store even more music storage, USB and SD for the in dash unit. I can play whatever I want, whenever I want when it comes to music. But discussion about current events is different. It can't be stored on something, it's realtime. Although I have SiriusXM in the car, the talk radio options aren't any different than local. Why pay for Sirius? If I pay for something I get for free, I'd rather not have the commercials. If I traveled a lot, I might change my mind. Right now, I prefer what I find on AM or FM.

So, I'm glad there's another talker in Knoxville. I'd be nice if they'd bring Jerry Doyle back though.
 
What about listening to NPR, Morning Edition and Afternoon, All Things Considered on 91.9? The best news on the dial if you have an open mind. They really give you the news and more. Try it if you have not.
