94.3 is WIGX

While the change in call sign has officially occurred (as indicated in the F.C.C. database), they are still calling themselves WMJC on the air. The website also continues to refer to the station as WMJC.
I guess a format change is likely once Barnstable's 96.1 and 104.3 are officially acquired by JVC. RadioInsight.com had said they registered a 94.3X website. Apparently they are still waiting for F.C.C. approval of the sale.

I was trying to figure out what sort of format the callsign WIGX might be hinting at.
RadioInsight may be right. They are speculating that it indicates a Generation X 90's based format is coming to 94.3. Sort of an oldies station for a relatively young demo.
I believe that Clear Channel has flipped a few of their stations to Gen X formats. This may be a first for 94.3 owner Barnstable, and the first such station in the area.

Or it might be alternative rock. Remember Radio X 94.7?

JVC however specializes in its rhythmic format, as its owners are also club DJs.

94.3 was not sold to JVC only 96.1 & 103.9 were.....94.3 is still a Barnstable station.

Wasn't there some kind of copywrite question on one of the boards about using any form of gen x outside clear channel ?

Interesting that in today's Newsday (Radio station owner dials up two more sales) there is mention of the 3 remaining Barnstable stations on L.I. and a description of each. For 94.3 WMJC, they called them a Christian station. This can't be what's coming, or is it?

I doubt it, Barnstable is a sales and marketing company. I dont know if Christian radio does that well in the billing dept, I cant see Atlantic Hyundai buying time on it, I could be wrong! ???

Well, X = Christ...

Hey, maybe there was a typo in the Newsday article, and 94.3 is actually going to be a Christmas station! :D

I found it...it was a e mail to clearchannel from gen x radio...
go to New York City boards look for "might gen x work in nyc"

No that's not it...has nothing to do with low power wlix...read GEN X'S rant again

Has nothing to do with WLIX it has to do with the use of "GEN X' as so called copywrite issue...

At one time there was WFYI WGLI, WHLI & WBLI on the air at same time.. THE i'S HAVE IT..I
don't think 2 X's should be a problem..

The 'other' board is reporting that Phathead and Malibu Sue have left the building. This appears to be true, as only Domonique, Rob Rush and Jon Daniels are listed under the DJ section (although The Bald and the Beautiful segments are still present). Also reported is a 90s format.

AllAccess is also reporting rumors that the station will have a Generation X format. They indicate the dlogan may be, "90's and Now." It says that management is denying the rumor, "so far."
Though the imaging would be different than it is now, wouldn't the station likely be playing similar music to the Hot A/C stuff they currently air?

a great sales and marketing move!

It's funny. A decade ago they ditched country for a mainly 80's format before becoming what they are at this moment. Wonder if in a few years they'll go back to being PLJ mid-Island like they are now.

AllAccess reports that WIGX will flip to 90's music tomorrow, Friday Nov. 5, at 5 pm. As expected, the station will be known as 94X ("THE NEW 94-X,LONG ISLAND's HIT MUSIC FOR GENERATION X.").
According to the article, there will be no jocks at first. It will focus on tunes from the mid 1980's through 2005.
Weekends from Friday at 5 pm through Monday 5 PM will be commercial free.
Joel Salkowitz of Party 105, and other LI stations is said to be the consultant for the new station. The current PD, Jon Daniels, is expected to stay.

And how is this any different from the unsuccessful Island format that was in place before this psuedo CHR format that is about to die? And how does Jon Daniels survive? What has he done for this place? I mean really.... calling it WMJC instead of Island? Trying to be a cross between WBLI and WALK, which is what it's been doing for the last 18 months?

I can't IMAGINE Salkowitz staying here long. Widmer will start his usual cheap ass BS and Joel will realize why Barnstable is a small fish in a small pond.

The logo is about the only thing going for it....

Lost in the changes is the fact that the full time on air line up had been in place for almost 7 years.

That's an eternity in broadcasting terms!

Hope these talented people are back on the air soon.
