94.3 orange co Questions

Hey Guys:

While doing my research I coundn't find any of these questions anywhere. Maybe you guys can help me with these:

Would anybody know:

1. What date KGGK changed to KTBT?

2. What date KTBT changed to KORJ?

3. Did KMXN change to AAA and when?

Thanks guys for your help. The format history for 94.3 I will post later once I get everything in order.

T.J.

In June 2000, KIKfm Country (94.3 KIKF) becomes KMXN-FM, "Cool 94.3 - The New Mix", under PD Craig Powers. The format was considered Hot AC.

It's flip to Alternative really began about year or two earlier, after Michael Halloran convinced Art Astor let him try the format on his AM station in Ontario, CA. It was called The New Alternative Mix - AM 1510. Eventually, Astor let Halloran move the format to his FM in San Diego's North County, KFSD-FM "Premium 92/1". Finally, on February 15th, 2001 with KROQ holding the #1 ratings position in Los Angeles, Astor decided to go for a piece of the pie in O.C. and flipped KMXN-FM to an Adult leaning Alternative format, sounding much like it's sister station in San Diego. The airstaff included many holdovers from 94.3's Country and Hot AC formats. Weekenders included Christy Carter (former KROQ), Dred Scott (former KLSX) and Scott Lowe (former Y107 and Premium 92/1). At one point, the station was renamed "Super Cool 94.3".

The purchase of KGGK and change of call letters to KTBT was reported in the March 26, 1966 Billboard, which said the changes would happen "around April 1". The format was supposed to be "Latin Music"...but within a year, they were album rock. That ended abruptly in August, 1969 when the station went Gospel. They then went to an early version of adult contemporary in December, 1970.

The earliest mention I can find of KORJ in Billboard is February, 1973.

Billboard reports Art Astor's arrival at the station in Februrary, 1978. He took them country in September 1980.
