94.3 WWNQ Stunting

They are stunting with childrens stories. I have heard Charlottes Web among other stories on WWNQ. Strange stunting.

Wouldn't have been what I would have done. Especially in this economy where there is little money for external promotion. I would have debuted the new format at 12:00 noon Christmas Day so that you can get all those ears that were listening to the Christmas tunes to sample the new station and then talk about it on Friday and the Monday after work.

But then again, if I knew better, I'd own them, right?

I thought that it was a little strange myself. I was still hearing that stuff this morning and would have thought that we would have gotten the new format either at noon yesterday or at six last night so it will be really interesting to see what follows here.

Radio Disney, perhaps?

That would be a heck of a flanker move out of left field. Radio Disney is basically a CHR targeted at kids and moms.

Radio Disney...haha. It would be an attention-getter.

WWNQ played two strange songs (according to yes.com) at 1:45AM and 2:00AM...Real Gone by Sheryl Crow and Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts. Was that an accident or something?

As for as children's stories, it's actually "FULL LENGTH MOVIES" they are airing and advertising. I heard "A Night At The Museum". There are also liners directing listeners to New 92. I hope it's NOT radio disney, but a REAL top 40 or something INTERESTING for Columbia!

I agree, I would love to see a really good Top 40 station come into the market and give both WNOK and WTCB a good run for their money as well. I just wonder if a Lite AC station would work even though WTCB is considered AC.

I think if a Top 40 or Rhy Top 40 were to sign on, it would certainly shake some things up in the market. Or even if an active rock station signed on.

I know it has been either hit or miss in other markets, but how bout a good well programmed Rhythmic AC station that could take not only NOK down a peg by grabbing their older end, but could also take down TCB a peg as well..... I know that is crazee thinking on my part, but not only would it pull away people from B, NOK, but could pull a few away from DM and 103 who may not be into the slow jamz all the time... JMO... CC1

I think a Rhythmic anything would be a mistake. Columbia already has two Urban ACs and two hip-hop stations. Remember that 94.3 has to be able to make money right away on whatever they put on or they will have to sell or file. As for AC, B106 has proven they can adjust to any variation of AC that comes in the market and they have a very loyal audience. Radio Disney might just work in the short term as they would be the only station with lots of Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus not only being played, but as personalities on the station. Could dramatically undercut the low end of WNOK. But I still think taking on Fox 102 with classic rock would be the easiest pickings right now (and an easier sales combo with New 92).

How about....better not say that....stay tuned...someone is very hot.......hmmmmmmm.

I think a Rhythmic Top 40 or Rhythmic AC would be very fun. Yes, we have 2 urbans already. But this may be the flip to start a domino effect. If it goes CHR or Rhythmic, Hot 103.9 may make a change, or if it goes rock, 93.5 and/or 102.3 may make a change. This market needs one hell of a shakeup. I just can not listen to the urbans anymore in Columbia. They have become watered down and sleepy. The best thing we have going right now is WXRY and their signal deserves far better. 96.7 Steve-FM should be the one competing with Fox. But then again, there is Eagle 105.7 that screams into the market with classic rock. There is way too much over-saturation of that format already. All of this is just my opinion of course:)

I'm telling yah guys. Radio Disney is a wacky choice. But not that outside the realm of out-of-the-box reality. RD has great demos. Very AC like. But kid-friendly. It is programmed for parents of young children and not the children themselves. It is a CHR, has the built-in personalities and promotions and requires no more personnel to do it well. Try listening to it on Sat Radio or WQEW out of New York at night. If I were in Double O's position, with no bucks and needing to have a quick seller. That would be it. You'd get NOK on the high and low end and pull away from B106 and WLTY without them being able to adjust without destroying their own formats.

Soft/EZ AC would be the next format that you could be in that position with. There's no way B106 could get soft enough without having Steve-FM eat away at them. But the disadvantage would be that It'd be the 3rd AC in the market. But, with 3 AC's denture-soft WCEZ did well almost 20 years ago.

Active rock is another possibility. But they'd need personalities to make a go of it. Quick sell. And would pretty much hem WARQ and WMFX in. If it's programmed right, both Fox and 93.5 would be real losers.

Hey DudeFan, how about 93.9? I havent heard anything lately about them signing back on. You guys are exciting to listen to and it shows when your on the air.

Double O. I see you made a comment on the urbans. Curious of ur thoughts on Hot and the Beat

I heard through the grapevine Harold was supposedly insulted by my preliminary discussions with him. With the sale of WWBD, he's likely in no hurry to return WIGL to the air. But yes, that would be one option.
