94.3 WYBC commercial on Channel 3

>Seems odd that they'd advertise on Channel 3. They (WYBC) don't have a very strong signal in most of the Hartford area...

But Channel 3 is the CBS affiliate for the Hartford-New Haven market, and has a strong over the air signal in the New Haven area. However, I've never seen an ad for WYBC on TV before.

I've never even seen a billboard for the station, and I drive in the New Haven area frequently. Word-of-mouth must be strong, since WYBC usually leads the New Haven 6+ ratings and, I assume, does well with the 25-54s that the advertisers want. So maybe they don't need to advertise much.

I enjoy that station...when I can get them anyways. Being in the south end of New Britain, it gets stepped over by WERB-FM 94.5 of Berlin High School. Who in the hell puts 94.5 next to 94.3, with their transmitter being maybe 22 miles from the WYBC-FM site? I also know 94.3 can't increase their signal, due to a different 94.3 broadcaster on Long Island, NY.

WERB got bounced from 97.3 in the early 90s when WZBG in Litchfield signed on. As for stations next to each other you've got a Bomba-FM translator on 97.1 transmitting from Bolton and you've got Restauracion 96.9 FM (WPRF-LP) transmitting from Osgood Avenue in New Britain down the street from EC Goodwin Tech. Speaking of which a couple weeks ago when I was walking home from ShopRite in Southington I saw an SUV from Restauracion 96.9 FM dropping someone off at the employee entrance to Vivaldi Pizza which is in the strip mall next to ShopRite Plaza.

Also...I believe there's some religious translator somewhere in Connecticut on 94.1 FM. It might be from Tolland County...which I doubt, since my Walkman got a faint signal of along the Berlin/Newington town line, close to the Berlin Turnpike (US 5/CT 15).

That would be WNWW 1290's translator from Hartford, W231CZ, carrying birdfeed teachin' 'n' preachin' from Minnesota's "Faith Radio" operation. Solid signal in New Britain.
