94.5 Changes?

Hey guys,

Not too sure how many of you guys listen to Jam'n on a regular basis, but for the past several weeks Maverick has not been on overnights. Tuned in a few minutes ago and it is some woman doing overnights, sounds like out of market VT crap. Music has changed overnight as well with more pop (sounds like Kiss 108 during the day now with Pussycat Dolls).

It would be a shame to see Maverick go as it leaves only the morning show and Bobby Blaze on during the day who are locally based. Everybody else is voicetracked.

Hate to break it to you but Maverik was voicetracked as well.

How about G-spin....isn't he local and live in the evenings?

Geespin has been voicetracking from Power 105.1 New York for a few years now.

Changes fer sure. Cadillac Jack to NYC full time, Chris Tyler off to Providence. Big fat opening at Kiss / Jamn' for PD/MD.. amazing !

Most likely, you heard some Premium Choice format overnight. Especially if she didn't give a station name and you heard stuff outside the general format.

Instead of using Premium Choices, my idea is that 94.5 should consider using "The Touch" (Citadel Media Networks) 24/7 Format (Citadel Media Networks-Choose "Programming", on top left choose "Our Shows" and last, choose "Music Radio" That will be in the center) Then look for "The Touch"
Now, I know (Touch 106.1) is already on in Boston Urban Neighborhood Cities) but "The Touch" used to come on in Boston back in Summer of ??? 1997/1997??? on 1150am
It's just an idea (94.5 The Touch)
It's just an idea, nothing to hurt no one, and no bad words to say to no one, it's only an idea

Let's transfer WILD-AM 10-Nine-0's format to 94.5! Let's move Tom Joyner's morning show to WJMN and then have hip hop/urban contemporary from 10 a.m. until midnight, with Gospel show from midnight until 6. On Saturdays, we can have Caribbean and old school disco all day until midnight, followed by quiet storm until 6 a.m. And on Sundays, we'll have gospel music until 2 p.m., followed by a 2 hour talk show. At 4 p.m., we can go urban/soul until 10 p.m. And we can have quiet storm from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday. We can put AM 1090's 2 talk shows on their HD2 channel from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with uncensored rap and hip hop the rest of the day and evening. Quiet storm can play during the midnight to dawn hours.

And why would Clear Channel pay to run a competitor's format on a station it owns?

I find it interesting that after being a loyal foot soldier for Cadillac Jack at CC Boston for over a decade, Tyler gets passed over for the Boston OM's job. It speaks volumes.

Instead, he gets demoted to Providence to watch the needles bounce on two and a half Premium Choice stations (excluding WHJY's daytime lineup). He won't have Cadillac to protect him there. Let's see if he lasts a year...

Yes, I definetely think this is more of a demotion for Chris Tyler to go to a much smaller market like Providence. However, for Boston it does leave an interesting opening. I wonder who they have in mind for the job.

Since Kiss 108 and Jamn 945 are doing well in the ratings, I can't imagine any significant changes to the stations, even though I would like to see some. I don't listen to Kiss 108 too much anymore, but do listen to Jamn on a daily basis and it would be great to see the power rotation scaled back a little (hour and 10 mins is too much). The station does need to add new music much faster than it does now, and perhaps diversify the playlist a little to include some wider range of older hip hop, r&b & pop songs along with recurrents from a year or 2 ago. The format itself doesn't need changing, as all CHR Rhythmics around the country are playing pop hits like Bruno Mars, Flo Rida/David Guetta & Rihanna, and there is really no good hip-hop/R&B out today. Some people say that 945 should play more hip hop/rap and less pop, but I don't think this will be successful here in Boston, as we have a small African American population, and I don't think the current audience are big fans of Rick Ross & the like.

Kiss108 on the other hand, has done well lately, but I would like to see them get rid of Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and the Madonna songs they play, which just sound silly on a CHR between Eminem and Usher. Sure it's there for older female listeners, but they are played every single day.

Also, Nessa On Air from San Francisco's WILD is now on JAM'N from 12-5 AM. I don't know if this is permanent or temporary, but I hope this does change and quickly as we have Kiss where I can get my gossip about Kim Kardashian....

JAMN is just too similar to KISS. I reccomend being faster on the Rhythmics/Urban friendly tracks and slower on the CHR hits. Currently, they are too slow on the songs that difference them from KISS (Urban friendly Rhythmic tracks) and are too quick on the songs that KISS is playing. The audience is definately there for an Urban skewing Rhythmic in Boston, JAMN needs to hop on this boat. They just are a Kiss #2 right now.

I agree it is a smart ratings move to be very CHR friendly, but not when your sister station is the heritage CHR in the market! ::) I'm curious to see who the new PD is. Hopefully someone new comes to town.

The thing is, the Mediabase CHR chart today is very rhythmic to begin with and the Rhythmic chart is a little too Urban, because the stations that report to them are classified kind of funny. That's why JAMN sounds so close to KISS.
I still feel that if JAMN does start sounding more Urban, it will alienate many of its current listeners who tend to be younger and white living in the suburbs, and therefore the ratings will not be as high as they are right now. The pirates @ 87.7 have pretty much covered the Urban format, and they do it very well.

I think Hot 87.7 is a little over rated, they sound good, but I think they sounded alot better when they were owned by Radio One and focused alot more on Hip-Hop and R&B. I'll admit my opinion is biased because I run a competitior, but that has some truth to it ;D
