94.5 Changes?

87.7 Hot 97

I know it's a pirate, and I don't condone pirate stations, but honestly I would love to see 87.7 really give Jam'n 94.5 some competition, especially in the city where the signal of Jam'n is poor. Kiss 108 sounds great, but Jam'n, still the "Radio Disney" of hip-hop stations. It's too soft core, and needs to sound more urban. I find it really interesting both stations do so well, yet they both almost sound the same. Obviously they are targeting the suburban 12+ audience. 87.7 has the city and suburbs out to 128 also covered. It seems Jam'n really does not care that there is a pirate that is covering the city very well with an urban format. I get the impression Jam'n does not care about the urban audience. I was hoping with 87.7 would cause Jam'n to have a harder edge with the music, but I don't see it. It's as if Jam'n is pretending 87.7 does not even exist. Well, their signal does not exist to much of the city audience so at least 87.7 is serving them. I would love to see 87.7 go legal and up their power, but we dream on.

On a good day, I can hear 87.7 driving all the way up I-95 to the Georgetown line and sometimes even Newburyport. I think they've upped their signal pretty good recently.

I agree though, I think JAM'N wants the 12+ and not the Urban audience, since there are more adverting dollars in that.

JAMN's playlist has been bland, stale, and predictable since shortly after Radio One sold 97.7, and now it's way too CHR friendly. I know it's all for ratings, but 94.5 should simulcast 107.9 for crying out loud. ::) They barely played "Fancy" by Drake which was a pretty big hit even in the Suburbs yet they played "Cooler Then Me" and "Impossible" to deeeaaaatttthhhh which is what KISS should be playing the death and JAMN be moderately playing at most.

So I would say Jamn does not sound anything like Hot 93.7 in Hartford, CT. I don't see why Jamn is playing "Enrique Iglesias - I Like It" that song is for a CHR.

Well to the defense of rhythmic stations, Enrique Iglesias made the top 10 on the Mediabase rhythmic chart and the current playlist fairs fairly well with the current Rhythmic chart. Defenetily agreed though, Hot 93.7 is way different and that has to do with Hartford's large African American/Hispanic population.

Jamn is actually sounding a lot now like they did back around 2000, when they played such rhythmic hits as "Blue" by Eiffel 65, "Feels So Good" by Sonique, and "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay.

Let's call a spade a spade...they don't need an OM in Boston. There's no competition except with each other...plain and simple. Clear Channel is sitting pretty. Not sure what Tyler did to get such a great "promotion" but CJ is needed in NYC...have a couple people that know selector, prod guy, a couple of local shows, and they're fine. True story. As much as I love Boston and wish these two station would step up, it's not needed. this is just my humble opinion...

It's been worse... I have an aircheck of Lady D on WJMN in 1996 backselling "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion.

At that point, the only other station besides Jam'n to play those songs was Star 93-7 (now classic rocker Mike). As much as I didn't like the over-rocking of Kiss 108 by John Ivey back then (Barenaked Ladies, Green Day, Godsmack, Creed, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Alanis, Goo Goo Dolls, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth), at least you could tell Jam'n and Kiss apart, and isn't that what "multiopoly" was supposed to do?

More changes at Clear Channel New York, Power's Ed Lover & Deja Vu are both no longer with the station which will effect Boston.

That leaves JAM'N without a jock 10am - 2 pm.

Malikha Mallette (now the former co-host of the Ed Lover Morning Show on CC's Power 105~1 NYC) is shifting to the midday slot, taking Deja Vu's place. Thus only the morning show slot remains open. But...Power 105~1 PM Driver DJ Envy is rumored for the slot (which would open up afternoons) along with Charlemagne (former co-host with Wendy Williams on WBLS NYC + syndicated to a few cities) and (I'm thinking) Miss Jones* from CC's Power 99 WUSL Philadelphia...who knows, maybe a simulcast in NYC/Philly similar to the "Star & Buc Wild" morning setup back in the mid 2000s on the same stations, based out of either city. BTW, Star & Buc Wild are on in mornings at Radio One's The Beat WPHI Philly.

*Note: the original report of Ed Lover's demise on this website mentioned Miss Info*, currently a news/celebrity drama reporter on Emmis' Hot 97 NYC, as a possible replacement at Power 105~1, but I think there was some "Miss"-information and/or "Miss"-communication. ;) Miss Info* was heard on Hot 97 on Saturday morning 11/20/10.

The original, or a dance mix?

The original. I got an air check of that somewhere. I'm just wondering when somebody anybody up there is going to grow a pair and go after clear channel. Like CBS is doing with Entercom with WBZ fm. I mean seriously if you cut kiss 108's ratings in half u are still in the top ten. A kick butt urban (white people like R&B too) or a more edgy chr would give Jamn and Kiss a run for their money.

Could someone post that aircheck? Please and Thank You!
