94.5 KFMX flipping to Sports?

I hope I'm wrong about this, but I suspect that "The Fan" is going to move over to FM 94.5. Why? Because during the W&H Show, I realized one of the numbers to call in is 1-866-945-5FAN. But what caught my attention was how Hyatt was saying it "94-5 5326." I heard that and thought "Uh Oh!"

Has anyone else noticed this? Are we about to lose KFMX, or is it about to be "99-5 KFMX?"

Or did my ears just deceive me? What's going on here?

FMX change formats? God forbid.

I have always wondered about 99.5. They can never seem to beat out KLLL. So I guess if that's true, then I suppose 99.5 could change to rock.

For Lubbock to have two sports formats on FM radio would be simply ridiculous. I just couldn't see GAP getting rid of the only Rock station in Lubbock that has come out on top before in the past.

I suppose if the Fan did move to FM, they could be put at an advantage over KTTU with the signal. But Ramar could always come in and move Stars back to 104.3 and Double T to 97.3. Or they could swap the power house, 93.7 and move Magic to 104.3 and KTTU to 93.7.

Sure would be annoying for us listeners :-\ so i hope that this isn't true.

There is NO WAY IN HELL that FMX would be taken off the air or even moved up or down the dial for some other station in the cluster, especially KKAM. That would be like a PIMP killing off his best whore, just so his ugliest one might have a chance at some business.

How could GAP corp., even think about taking the number 1 money maker in the cluster ( I assume) and a great money maker for the company... off the air. That's absolutely insane.

However... what the hell do I know.

Agree'd. No way that it could happen. I would never listen to my radio again if they did that.

KLLL's listener line is 770-5555. Maybe they're going to take over digital channel 5?

If they would move an AM to the FM dial wouldn't they move KFYO? Not saying they would, but that station seems to have a lot more ads on it. I've been to cities where the AM stations also get space on the HD dial with FM. I doubt any other stations will join 89.1 in the HD game.

Garrett does make a point about 99.5 though. I think out of all the GAP stations, 99.5 is the most vulnerable right now for a format change. With that said, I DOUBT it would change to The Fan. Sometimes I wonder if Lubbock hasn't seen the last of JACK yet...

You are obviously new to the radio business (just kidding). Insanity perfectly describes how radio's been managed the last decade or more! I too think such a change isn't likely, and would be quite insane, but wouldn't surprise me either. I've seen LOTS of insane things done in this market by GAP, CC, and many others. It wouldn't be the first time...

Garrett, believe me you are reading way too much into that.

I agree.

For now I agree. But I think when the economy picks up and the FCC approves the -10dB power increase, HD will be something local commercial stations will look into. Give it time. Meanwhile, I'm happy to have Lubbock's monopoly on HD right now. If only Arbitron wouldn't clump our HD listeners in together with our analog listeners...
