94.5 KOOL FM brings Mike Patrick on board

What... ???

Ditto!

His style is definitely different. I can't help but think that it just doesn't fit... and some of you who have been here for a while may know that I don't like change! I can be proven wrong later on! I'll say that he has improved... The first time he was on KOOL was actually in the month of October (I believe) doing a few Sunday nights 9pm to midnight. He then disappeared for some weeks until doing daytime hours on the weekend as he is now.

All I really would suggest... (Disclaimer: this is only a suggestion from a listener! Please refrain from laughing out loud...) is being a little more creative with leading into promotions of the station's upcoming events, ETC, before the commercial break... don't be too repetitive; a "broken record"; change it up just a little bit, even just a couple times every hour. He should try to use some recent news or band/artist news to lead into things. Liz Boyle does an awesome job at this! I think that there are so many interesting articles out there on the net that can be used to work your way into getting down to business and telling about a KOOL event, band/artist, etc, coming up. The possibilities are almost endless.

Also, using the song titles of the next song set into a sentence right before commercial, like: "coming up we'll be Draggin' the Line, and catching that Long Train Runnin'..." is nice, clever, and cool, but I'll be honest, he does this waaay too much and gets a little annoying. Nothing wrong with saying the greatest hits of all time rolls on, with Tommy James & the Shondells and the Doobies, next... And not giving the song titles like almost always.

But as I said, he's improving! I love the facts he sometimes gives about a song that was just played or that will be coming up!

That's about all of my thoughts right there... as a long-time, big-time KOOL listener and radio junkie (who more than likely needs a life), I would never claim to know a thing about what I'm talking about right now (though I hope to be a DJ someday)... so as for this post: Take it or Leave it. ;) But don't laugh... I'm just a "young'un" (18) who's got something to say! ;D

Welcome, Mike Patrick!

Lauren

Don't know either. Maybe KLL can ask NFVG for the scoop. ;)

His Saturday on-air time has been created by shrinking existing
jock shows--they're shoehorning him in from (I think) 1-4, plus
various timeslots on Sunday.

It's almost like Lee Bortel shouldn't even have to come in
for a sixth day if (with Patrick on board) it's only to do
three hours...except Lee always does a bang-up show.
Almost Ocean-esque in hitting those posts!

Perhaps it's a warm up to fill-in over the Christmas/New Year's
period when some of the regulars will no doubt be on vacation,
however to me his voice and delivery doesn't really fit the oldies
(classic hits, whatever) format--he'd be better suited on KYOT.
But isn't KYOT "Tony Evans voicetracked in the morning, and
everyone else voicetracked all day"?

Closed circuit for PD Kris: get Mike to up his tempo a bit (and the
other stuff KLL mentioned) put him on Saturday mornings 6-10.
It's a weekend daypart that wants a live voice, not syndication.

For the uninformed....Mike Patrick spent many years at JAZZ- KYOT "Coyote" and from what I understand was cut loose after a budget cut with CC. He is a Phoenix radio vet and voice-talent.

He certainly has the pipes!

I'm cutting him some slack. I remember when I'd be starting out at a new station...It was almost like my first day in radio all over again until my new station's formatics became second nature to me.

I'm sure he'll settle in soon...

Smooth and creamy as butter, baby! It's amazing to converse with Mike and hear that voice come out of a mere human being, the same way it sounds over the movie theater speakers! Gorgeous.

Nice guy, too......

reverb on the kool mics would be awesome

and simulcasting with KOOL Gold 9~Sixty as some of those oldies just don't sound right on FM! ;)
