94.5 The Hawk Time For A Change!!!

Could The Hawk be ready to take flight out of the port city?

I am not going to get banned and post numbers on here; but the numbers for WKXS are the lowest they have ever been since they dropped urban ac back in 2006. WKXS is getting slaughtered by almost every radio station in the market.

If you look at the raitings the station has been on a downhill slide; since Perry Stone left. The Hawk's numbers are now in the toilet and they have not gone up at all as far as I can tell.

This radio station has a very unorganized group of airstaff; it was great when Perry was there. They had JB&B in the morning Perry in drive time and Greg Kihn at night. I personaly do not like Kihn's show but that is only my opinion. Perry Stone is gone so then they get Jackie Jordan in for afternoons; she then goes over to mornings at GNI wich is fine. I never can tell if Dutch is going to be on the air one day or out of the building the next; it is very inconsistant. I am not sure about The Hawks weekend jocks so I will not speak to something I am not sure of.

Their playlist can't have more than 350 songs at best; what on earth is keeping cumulus from flipping this station or are they going to flip the hawk for that matter.

This station either has little or no money; or they are behind the times I just don't know. Perry Stone has been gone for over a year as I write this. If you go to The Hawk's website and click on contests they still say "listen to Perry Stone" and they still mention the three games he used to play (1) the mystery classic (2) the early bird special (3) trivia from hell. Whats going on?

I am not trying to be critical or harsh I am just pointing out what I have seen/heard over time. In my opinion The Hawk has had a great run but it is time for a change.

I saved my biggest question for last; Does anyone know what happend to Perry Stone or where he is? no one is telling me anythingand I can't find him anywhere; he was a real good friend of mine.

With all the changes over the last year at Cumulus Wilmington, with one of those involving my layoff, i have not heard where
the former operations manager has gone, and whether or not he is still in radio or living in this area, but i agree it's sad what
has happened to this station, one of the limits they have is their power, only 4,000 watts, and there frequency, 94.5, it's too bad they can't move elsewhere and get a signal increase, but with the woes Cumulus is having here and nationwide, i'm
surprised they haven't filed for Chapter 11 yet, but that may not be far away, in the meantime, they ought to consider moving
980 WAAV to 94.5 or at least simulcast them, at least the signal won't be wasted with repetious music.

Yes, that is true, and the only reason why it changed was because Cumulus wanted to challenge Coast 97.3, who at that time
was owned by another company i worked for, Cape Fear Broadcasting, but they knew they had no chance in overcoming a
100,000 watt station that was well established, and when the opportunity arose for Cape Fear to sell to Cumulus, the
company got what they wanted, and still kept "Kiss 94" as a Urban AC, why they did so for years afterwards, i still don't understand, i think Cumulus made a mistake by not moving WAAV from 980 to 94.1 then, and could have beat Sea-Comm
Media and became the first FM talker in Wilmington, since then, "The Big Talker FM" has surged ahead of WAAV in the
latest ratings book, if they want to compete to some degree, management needs to consider this move, and soon!

I put that 94.1 on the air. Donn Ansell and his Brother wanted an FM station. We shoehorned it in and it was simulcast for the most part, It was split when there was two sporting events, and If memory serves me, During the sunday programming. The FM studio was the Production room across the hall at 211 North 2nd st.
The Transmitter was on an AM directional array near Bolivia. We could not put it on the WAAV tower in Bellville because of spacing.

I know EXACTLY how you feel...
