94.5 Will Soon Belong Exclusively to WJOX

Beginning Monday, WJOX will be heard 24/7 on 100.5 AND 94.5. After an adjustment period, 100.5 will flip to something else and WJOX will remain on 94.5.

8) 8)This shall be interesting. Wouldn't it be something of Citadel revived the old WRAX and brought back alternative music or made it into an Active Rock type station?

How'd you hear of this? Is this your own prediction, or have you got some information that can confirm it?

It's true. I found the story on al.com this morning about Jox permanently moving to 94.5. WJOX and WYSF will simulcast for two more weeks, then another format for 100.5 will be announced and put in place...maybe... ;)

Here's the link to the al.com story:

I guess the speculation now is... What will they put on 100.5? It's a weak signal in Birmingham and points east, so whatever problems it had as JOX and WRAX will continue with any new formats, unless they decide to just compete in Tuscasloosa. ???

What about the people in Tuscaloosa?

We can't pick up 94.5.

None of this makes any sense. Why would they eliminate that Tuscaloosa market?

You're right, JOX is a top 10 station for the Tuscaloosa market. And 100.5 does reach into Tuscaloosa. And if 100.5 goes True Oldies, there will be two True Oldies stations in the market. And isn't it interesting how WDGM's signal is based south of Tuscaloosa. And with that CP and all, isn't it interesting that 99.1 has the capability to carry the same programming as 94.5 without a whole lotta overlap? Hmmmm?

If I were still in Tuscaloosa, I'd sure be on the phone lobbying for it.

I thought the very reason they put 'JOX on 100.5 was for it's bonus T-town coverage, myself. But since listeners in Metro Birmingham are the ones that count (at least in profitability), one can see why they got priority.

It doesn't matter what they do.  Far as I'm concerned, they're confused and don't even know what to do.

Hurry up Mr. Glenn King and upgrade 94.3 FM, so that Selma won't have to hear this trainwreck called 94.5 from B-Ham any longer.

You've already posted this, we don't need a repeat.

Who can't pick up 94.5 in Tuscasloosa? ???

Last time I was down there for a football game, 94.5 came in pretty clear on my cell phone's radio, complete with a solid RDS lock. It must some cheapo deepo radios that can't get 94.5 in the city. Now west of town... That's another story.

The problem with a station like 100.5 (and moreso with 101.1) is covering multiple markets - who does your advertising target? Well if you're in Tuscasloosa, are ya gonna drive to Birmingham to visit a station sponsor of 100.5 (or vice versa?)

I'm surprised Citadel hasn't attempted to move 100.5 to Red Mountain like they did with 95.7 - drop the power but put it in a great location.

And the harm done by doing so is...? ???

Sorry for the repeat.  Didn't mean to do that.

Still can't get over what 94.5 has become.  It was once a great station, when it was I-95.  They had a great mix of music, back during its heyday.

Face it RDP, talk is going to be more and more prevalent on FM in the coming years, especially if the recording artists manage to push through choking new performance royalties. That combined with less listening due to iPods and whatnot, and you've got a one-two punch that'll see the weaker stations (like 94.5) to a talk-based format.

Not that music radio will go away entirely, but if radio is to ever thrive again, it will be because of programming unique to the medium. Talk radio as we know it today and sports & sports talk are two relatively new formats that have helped radio remain viable in the era of the iPod.

Want to make it big in radio? Come up with the next unique format...
