94.5/WTHK applies for move to Philly

Say it with me : 97.5. 97.5. 97.5. 97.5. I know it's only been six months.

(hence the studies of WALK and WIXM in this application)

Interesting.

Looks like its from the PHL-TV tower in Wyndmoor, north of Philly.

Staying as a class B it requires a fairly severe directional, pulling in from the west (RVV Harrisburg) about 9 db (6 KW equivalent), and from the southeast (IXM Millville) almost 7 dB (11 KW equivalent).

Just out of curiosity since "The Hawk" is one of my favs, when would such a move be implemented? I did hear/see all of the rumors back in February when 'PST & 'THK swapped frequencies that a move by WTHK was soon to follow and low-and-behold here it is. I'm thinking a move that far west would kill any shot I have of getting the station...unless they can send some of the power to the east since as previously stated they have 2 other stations to protect. Just what I wanted...another AC station that I'll be able to hear, WALK 97.5. God Help Me!!!!!

Usually takes about 3 months for FCC approval, unless someone files an objection. Expect they'd build it right away after FCC approval.

Actually, it was 7 months this past Wednesday.

If you can get WJJZ on 106.1 you should be able to get 94.5. (This only applies to North/Central Jersey)

Ummm give or take some adjacent interference huh!?
ie: 105.9FM

BY THE WAY...we ARE talking about 97.5 folks!!! NOT 94.5, WPST!!

Thanks, I feel better now...

No actually, since 97.5 is to remain directional away from WALK it still holds true.

The 105.9 interference to 106.1 is about equal to the directionality of 97.5.

That's why I picked 106.1 as opposed to 94.1/95.7/96.5/etc.

Understood. Then if the "new" 97.5 pattern is to be sooooooo "directional" then what kind of pattern will it actually have? Sounds overly complex to me...but then again I'm not an engineer.

JerseyShor got it backwards. The new 97.5 will actually be directional towards WALK, not away from it. The nulls are to the west to protect WRVV, and to the southeast to protect WIXM.

The WJJZ comparison still holds though. If the only thing stopping you from hearing WJJZ clearly on 106.1 is the 105.9 interference, you should have no problem hearing 97.5. Of course, the real question is whether you'll want to hear it, because Classic Rock probably won't stick around.

One of the interesting things about this move is that the new 97.5 will have better coverage into Central Jersey than any of the other Philadelphia stations, because it won't have ANY on or adjacent channel interference in between WALK and WIXM's coverage area. Every other Philly station has to deal with a New York station either on the same frequency (100.3, 101.1) or on an adjacent frequency (92.5, 93.3, 94.1, etc.).
