94.5 WZOU Playlist from 19 years ago (2/23/91)

All those songs on that playlist are on my iPod. I tend to to put most of the older billboard charts on my iPod.

Wow, that's awesome! I thought Stevie B was a one-hit wonder with "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)." Now, do you actually have an aircheck from then, or just a list? Believe it or not, I do have an aircheck of WZOU from the very end of 1989 or the beginning of 1990. It features the Top 11 songs of 1989, from AT40 with Shadoe Stevens, and the song "Get Up (Before the Night is Over" by Technotronic, announced as a brand-new song!

Seeing as how we're on this topic, I figured this would be a good time to ask you music gurus out there for help with ID'ing a song in this August '91 WZOU aircheck. http://airchexx.com/wp-content/plug...November/082391-wzou.mp3&height=225&width=470

It's the song that plays after "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye, and before "Walking In Memphis", located a little before halfway through the clip. I remember the song getting ample airplay in late '91 on WZOU and have been looking for it for years but not sure what the name or artist is. Iti's a laid back rnb tune and you hear the bass intro into the drums but it is scoped so no lyrics to go by...thanks for your help!!

I don't like most of it either, but face it ... this is the music that will be pushing '70s music off "classic hits" stations by the end of this decade. I don't remember hearing Mister Mister or Men At Work anywhere through much of the last decade until '80s music started replacing '60s on most oldies/classic hits outlets. Just because that music didn't have a radio-format home for several years didn't mean it would never get played again.

You RULE! I've been looking for this since 1991. You're the best.

I do have a few airchecks of WZOU from 1991 to 1993. But this is merely their playlist as reported to Billboard for that week. I do not have an aircheck corresponding to that particular date.

What else is on your aircheck from 1989/90...specifically in terms of local music...not the national countdown?? Thanks!

Wow, this was a great thread until this point. The old 'ZOU was the best, and there are some real 'oh wow' songs back in the '91 playlist.

Steve Rivers had actually already moved onto Kiss 108. Steve Perun was the PD at WZOU by this time. And sorry, I can't help myself, but it's "Marc with a 'C' Clark with no 'E'" ;)

Looking back 19 years at any station will be mostly awful music. Only the classics are remembered as hits. This was a great time period as a 'Zou listener. The Morning Zoo; Steve Rivers, Ron Engelman, Scott McKenzie, Bill Rossi (News), Andrea Phillips, Human Numan, Karen Blake, Marc Clarke, Artie the One Man Party......

IIRC, Steve Perun was basically on a six month vacation in Boston as Sunny Joe White was already (clearly) running the station (the disco classics came right before or after Mix, which was also heavy on disco classics, came on the air). Which Rich Balsbaugh found out about this, plus the fact that Steve Rivers and John Madison's attempts to flip Kiss into a Bon Jovi/Tesla/Great White/GNR/Motley Crue type of station bombed, Balsbaugh exploded, benched those two, put his divorce trial on hold, and single-handedly brought Kiss 108 from the lower top 10 back to #1 by Spring 1992, thanks primarily to its putting the Kiss classics back in rotation.

We need the Kiss classics in rotation somewhere besides Barry Scott's Lost 45s show (awesome disco show last month, BTW)!

Lady Gaga's on Jam'n? I thought Kiss music was prohibited from Jam'n because of common ownership and the need for Kiss and Jam'n to be completely different stations.

I visited Philly a couple times. CC owns the CHR Station Q-102 and one of the 3 hip-hop stations - POWER 99. I've heard some of the same songs on both stations.

The same in Hartford when CC used to owne POWER 104 and KISS 95.7, except the song was played sped-up on KISS and at normal speed on POWER 104.

Kiss classics aside... Only speaking in terms of current music, the actual FACTUAL Kiss 108 playlists published in Billboard Magazine from 1990 through 1991 (following the transition from Sunny Joe White to Steve Rivers) completely disprove all of your current and past rantings about Steve Rivers making Kiss into a hard rock station. The truth is that Sunny Joe White played more of that stuff on Kiss 108 than Steve Rivers did. Again, this is in terms of CURRENT MUSIC. I can't speak to whether Steve Rivers might have downplayed the "Kiss classics" although I wouldn't be surprised if he did appropriately so...given that WZOU was kicking Kiss 108's ass by the end of 1990 prior to the switch...

Majority of those songs has played on Kiss 108 or any other CHR in the country... shame on Jam'n 94.5 for calling themselves "Official #1 for Hip Hop and R&B". Jam'n needs to sound like Power 106 LA or 106 KMEL in SF (sister station of Jam'n, sounds WAY better), or even Power 99 Philly (even though they lean Urban AC most of the time).

99.1 KGGI in Riverside (also Jamn's sister station) has a similar playlist but it sounds way better and they actually try out new music on ODM's 7:30 "Bump it or Dump It". They're playlist is mixed with hip-hop/pop and sometimes lean Urban AC. Either way, they've always call themselves "The IE's Hottest Music".

i think they now call themselves "Boston's #1 for Hip Hop and Today's Hit Music, JAMN 945"

On 94.5 Website they still have #1 for Hip Hop and R&B ( On the air 94.5 say #1 Hip Hop and Today's hit music ).

What a limp playlist. No wonder CHRs were dropping like flies in the early 90s.

I stopped listening to top 40 when The Beatles broke up and reading this list just reinforces the wisdom of that decision.
