94.5A Albany VT for sale in september...

A handful of college kids who are only in town 8 months a year (and probably listen to mp3 players more than radio anyway) aren't gonna pay the bills.
And since when are Led Zep & AC/DC "active rock"? I thought active rock was current-based.

most of the kids who go to college in the NEK can't even afford and ipod and most live within 50 miles of lyndon state. 500 Night/ 1600 or so day. that will tell you something.

it seems no one is bidding on this auction from what I am seeing on the FCC website... is anyone else checking up on this auction besides me?

Jamie, we knew you were all over this one, keeping the world informed of where 94.5A in Albany VT was heading, so none of us had to.. ;)

I have spent most of my time in radio in the NEK on WWLR. I was told I was "too professinal to stay wilth WWLR by the other Directors or of the station. remember, it is student run station... . there is no rock station in the NEK... since I did an all request rock show on WWLR... I listened to what listeners wanted. Unfortunately. times have changed and colllege kids have changed. Its seems to be all about indie rock Let the kids do what they want. thats why things are student run.For me it was No more active rock with most college kids doing radio which made me also feel I was out of place. I would say most of my listenership was actually the local community. I do miss it up there some days. I am now on WXCI 91.7 Danbury CT fridays 4-7 trying to stay on the air. Http://wxci.org

Jamie, I'm sure there is a small calling for an 'active rock' format in the very conservative NEK.. Non profit college radio is a lot different from a commercial operation as you well know.. Not only is there a 'window' for 94.5, there's probably about 1/2 dozen unbuilt or undesired FM frequencies in the NEK VT / NC NH.. It's pretty amazing how crowded the radio dial in the NEK/NC has become over the past 20 years, radio stations have sprouted up everywhere.. WMTK 106.3 Littleton was the first, and WKHX (WNKV) 105.5 in St. Jay was the second, both doing automated country at the time. If 94.5A could be built to reach some of the more 'population' centers of the NEK, then it might be more attractive to a bidder / builder / operator..I hope your gig at WXCI is going well for you...

Looks like that 94.5 signal will reach about 30 people, 2000 cows, 8000 deer, and lots and lots of trees. I can see lots of national advertising buys waiting for that signal to be built..

the nearest 94.5 is over 80 miles away near Rutland.. for adjacent stations 94.3 and 94.7 there is a 94.7 in canada that is a bit troublesome and going over sheffield hights its WCYY from the coast of maine 100 miles away. could the COL be changes to Sheffield Heights.
how about using EB-5 http://www.eb5immigration.com/
hire local Vermonters who used to be in radio or the misplaced ones in radio? 10 staffers is all you need to try to get an EB-5

I followed this thread to the point of glazing over and then Jay nailed it. Sweet relief!

Forget it folks. We're talking a class A channel and we're talking Vermont. There's no way that license would pencil regardless of tower site.

sorry about the blank post... I thought it posted..

Look at 93.7 / 94.1 WOTX the outlaw... a lot of WWLR's old listenership is listening to them...

as for investment how about this:

http://www.eb5immigration.com/

it is such a dead frequency that it would go far outside of the COL

the closest station on 94.5 is 50 miles away in Canada and in the USA 85 miles away
94.5 is "dead" unless you are up at Jay. at Jay Peak 94.7 screams on 94.5 FM. if there is enough DBU that problem would be fixed
I did a drive around last year when 94.5 was up for sale.
