From RadioInsight: Country Drama Takes Down Badlands In Corpus Christi

Texas Country “94.7 Badlands FM” is off the air in Corpus Christi in what they are claiming is a “contract dispute”.
Davila Broadcasting’s 94.7 KBSO has replaced the previous format with “My 94.7“. The new format, billed as “Corpus Christi’s Country“, is a mix of contemporary Country and Texas artists.

Little birds say the "Contract Dispute" is the typical "Missing Checks". Country might not be the worst choice with the demise of KOUL, . They were live and local last night at 7:30 PM. Haven't heard anyone there this morning.

Did hear someone on the air this afternoon.

Mainly it's Texas music still, but I have heard one or two mainstream songs.

Now according to Badlands FM from their Facebook page...

"Still piecing together the new equipment we had to buy because we left some of our stuff behind. We are still working and don't have a certain timeframe for the launch.....stay with us. Might be in the morning..."

I personally think it was a good move for 94.7. It always seemed like a decent signal to me, and I never understood why it was wasted. If I was in charge though, I'd shed the Texas music and create a younger/top 40 style country station with slick imaging and mostly uptempo current hits. They could take the younger country audience from K99, which is a horribly bland country station.

Texas music rocks! It's better than much of the old boring top 40 country you can just pick up on every other station. I personally like how My 94.7 stuck to the Texas stuff.

Well technically they might be at least over the air... My WiFi. :)

I think you are pretty dead on with that take on it. I've known Davila since I was a little kid (my parents would take us out to the shows his dad would put on outside the studios off Leopard) and I will say this in all the years I've known him and his wife Rebecca they have been really good people. If Davila would not renew their lease it had to be because they were behind in lease payments. We've all heard the stories of the Badlands folks not being able to pay their employees. They are now claiming they had to leave equipment behind. I interpret that as "when you pay me what you are behind on you can have the gear back". And you are right...with the void KOUL left when EMF bought 103.7 now is the perfect time to tweak their programming.

I've tried to add Badlands FM back into the TuneIn app three times now, and they won't put it in. :(

Well, My 94-7 lasts less than two years... And Badlands Radio is still going strong (from Houston now) at BadlandsFM.com, on their Badlands Radio Mobile Apps, and on TuneIn. See who lasted longer? :p
Funny thing is the KBSO owners are now leasing it to another group for the Texas music on 94-7... Guess Corpus Christi might just be able to support Texas country after all?
