94.7 Fresh FM Simulcasting 99.1 WNEW Due To Storms

So even with a worse signal than WTOP, CBS can simulcast News 99.1 on Fresh 94.7 when it counts, during severe weather. After all, when it is 100 degrees and your power is out, the last thing you want to hear is todays fresh music. This will help WNEW be heard on the crappy battery powered radios (most of them anyways, my Grundig G8 and Insignia portable are as good as car radios, but they're expensive and only DXers would have them)

As the kids would say, s*** just got real: A blog thinks that a D.C. utility service is in bed with WTOP since they advertise with the station. And WTOP's Jim Farley responds: "It's BS."

That same blogger suggested on his Sunday edition of DAVE TV that PGC be moved to 99-1 because that western-suburb-weak signal will serve PGC's audience just fine. Wow. Though I am not a fan of that station's programming moves of late, even I think it would be crazy to move the cluster's top billing station to a weaker signal. DCRTV Dave went way round the bend with that one. Now replacing FRESH FM permanently, might be an idea. They certainly have to do something to get NEW into NOVA if they ever expect to make serious traction against TOP.

They could put The Fan on 94.7 and WNEW on 106.7. 106.7's signal is strong where 99.1 gets weak, and The Fan gets a stronger signal in DC itself.

Fresh is doing too well to be replaced though. They're tied with their heritage Hot AC competition and reaching the affluent 25-44 females advertisers love.

If WNEW-FM wants to lure more of WTOP-FM's audience wouldn't they have to buy more Translators the same way WTOP does it to reach other parts of the DC or Baltimore Market?

99.1 is actually a Baltimore radio market signal. Anne Arundel county,Md is actually a part of the Baltimore area and region not DC its not a DC western suburb. IMO CBS Radio would be better served keeping WNEW on 99.1 and having 94.7 as the MAIN signal for WNEW.
