94.7 The Block

I agree but Idiocy did not want to promote Country.Y107 promoted heavily in Brooklyn even with signal issues. There is a country clash on the Jersey Shore----there is money to be made if it is done right.I am paying less than ten dollars per month on Sirius for my new car.In my old car, I listen to 1310 when I can.106.3 is blocked here by a pirate and still got a .9 rating.
It’s not that Audacy didn’t want to promote it, it’s that they couldn’t sell it in the larger city, not just the Jersey ‘burbs. When a station bills roughly $2 million in market #1, even on an iffy signal, that’s a major problem.

It's hard to find stats on numbers of Mexicans in NYC. Most statistical information lumps Hispanic/Latino as a whole.
No, it does not. There is plenty of market research data about national origins. You just have to pay for it.
I did find one source stating that the Mexican population was 3.9.
3.9 what? Percent?

There are just over 5.2 million Hispanics in the metro; about half are Spanish dominant. The two largest groups are Puerto Rican (where most of those under 60 are not Spanish dominant) and Dominican. Next are Ecuadorians and then Mexicans. 75% of Spanish dominants are Dominican.
Perhaps undercounted but being local it's rare to meet a Mexican person in NY. You're more apt to come across a Guatemalan although they tend to live outside the city proper and migrate to more rural areas.
There are about 10 times the Mexicans as there are Guatemalans in the NYC radio metro.
All that said I'm quite sure there is no market for Regional Mexican. Que Buena 92.7 when Mexican pulled in next to nothing although one could argue it's signal was the issue.
It was part signal and part the fact that Mexicans are hesitant, due to legal status, to be part of a survey where they are "monitored" by an electronic device.
Regardless I can't imagine it being a viable format due to the low Mexican population and the other reasons you listed

Almost all ad buys for fuller market signals are agency based. Agency buys in NYC don't include country as the reach (cume of a radio station) is so small that it is not worth adding a 20th rated station to a buy. More paperwork and wasted time than it is worth.

The issue with a country radio station is that there is no advertiser interest. The station was not even covering expenses. WMCA was outbilling it by 50%. WADO outbilled it. WLIB tied with it in revenue. It was not even in the top 20 in revenue.

Oh in the 90s that was my station modern rock at the jersey FM 106.3

Since 94.7 became the Block it is the first time I've had any reason to tune in to 94.7. I'm suprised how bad the signal is in Manhattan. On the east side it's very difficult to hear inside any building without interference. The outboroughs have less issue without the tall buildings. To me, regardless of popularity this just can't ever be a ratings winner in NYC with a signal that has trouble penetrating buildings in Manhattan. Maybe the move closer to Manhattan will help slightly but this move never takes effect

Why ? i have 50 stations on my siriusxm presets alot dont have djs but some unfortunately do.
You ever hear how many mistakes the mtv vjs make on the big 40 80s countdown.
Theres even a site that tracks them all cause theres so many.
That entire group sure isnt putting in tireless hrs on those shows.
Well, SiriusXM has rolled out jockless versions of 80s on 8 and I think 70s on 7 and 60s Gold.

How much listening to that station do you think is going to take place in Midtown or Central Park East or the Financial District even with a perfect signal?

IMO, this was not the signal for this kind of format. I get that country wasn’t working and something had to change.

I know Audacy didn’t want two changes going on at once, but IMO 92.3 would have been a better reaching signal for The Block while 94.7 probably would have hit in better areas for Alternative.
