94.7 THE BUZZ

Hold onto your hats: The Spy had three in a row I knew tonight!!!

ONE STEP AHEAD Split Enz
REMIND ME Roÿksopp
LOVE ETC. Pet Shop Boys

See, many of you may barely remember that Split Enz song from MTV once or twice 25 years ago, may not even know that Pet Shop Boys have a new album, and may never have even heard of Roÿksopp, but that is the kind of "mainstream" alternative I'm talking about. If I've heard it, then you're within the realm of attracting more audience. I sit there and page through The Spy's BDS, and I keep going "Who are these acts?". I don't wish ill on them, and he's welcome to play them, but not a steady diet! That's what killed Rick Walker's initial stab at programming Kiss--he let the computer keep stringing too many unfamiliar songs together. Sure the jocks know them by heart, but we aren't here to please the jocks (or the licenseholders, hint hint).

So far so good IMHO. Soon though it will need some really good imaging and great jocks. Mel Myers is "on the beach" in Tulsa. There's your morning guy along with a funny guy like Eggman or Bill Thomas. If there's any way on earth to steal away Wavvy Davey from Cox Tulsa, that would be the imaging and midday dude. Get BoogieMan Lester Michels for afternoon hell raising. Will CC do this? My guess is there isn't enough of a budget to begin to do it. Oh well... At least the music is right, eh?

Just in listening to the other Classic Rock stations in this town.... there are a couple of weekenders that would be perfect for "Brew."

Personally I don't think they're willing to commit real money to hire the type of talent to make a dent in this market. We will soon find out of this is a serious contender or an inexpensive corporate flanker.
