94.7 The Wave Playing More Smooth Jazz Instrumentals

Looks like KTWV is now playing a lot more Smooth Jazz instrumentals during their Sunday Brunch. Yesterday, it was an instrumental every other song. During the 10 AM Hour of the Sunday Brunch yesterday, it totaled out to be 6 instrumentals to 5 vocals. 12 PM hour was 6 instrumentals to vocals. The rest of the day's playlist (Feb 3rd) was heavier than normal on the instrumentals.

Maybe this is just a weekend thing? Looking through today's playlist, it's still an increase from the very few that they used to play. How does LA feel about this SJ instrumental increase?

Well the station ranked #12 during the holidays so the adjustments David made might be a strategy to keep people listening after the holiday tunes were over. Just my guess.

The key here is, that it was during the Sunday Brunch. The restaurant they broadcast from is a jazz club, so I'm thinking that this was done to bring the show more in line to their format. But I've also noticed more "smooth" songs per hour than before Christmas. Interesting, since the smooth jazz format has fared so poorly with PPM. The station sounds very good. It's an all female jock lineup, and I will admit that at times its nice to hear a man on the air, but the ladies are all top of the line talent. Still, Saturday afternoons are a nice change with a guy on the mic.

It will be interesting to see if they can make this format work with more smooth jazz added back in.

Bill Dudley use to work overnights at the Wave for a while but now I think their jockless from 12 til 5.

Dudley used to share overnights with the production director and a few weekend talent. They went jockless overnight back in November. Dudley still does production for KTWV and KRTH.
