I am posting this on the Jersey board because WFME is a Newark, NJ station...
Is Family Radio looking to sell its powerhouse 94.7 WFME? A post on the Philly board mentions how Family Radio was looking to sell some stations in the Northeast, including 106.9 WKDN/Camden and 94.7 WFME/Newark. Here is the link to that post: http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=699692&Board=philadelphia
Is it possible that Family Radio is willing to sell off their powerhouse FM stations (and make a killing in revenue gains!) and reinvest in AM stations? What is their financial situation - are they strapped for cash that they need to sell stations? This may not be a bad idea since the AM stations would be cheaper to buy and still maintain a decent coverage area equivalent to the FM stations. There are a few AM stations in the NYC area that have a decent signal into the 5 boroughs in which Family Radio may consider (i.e. 620/WSNR, 1430/WNSW, 1660/WWRU).
Sounds like a big stretch to me, but has anybody heard about this? Remember, Family Radio sold their powerhouse FM station in San Francisco last year, so this could be another part of their overall strategy. But part of me believes this scenario is just too good to be true! I live near Newark, so 94.7 is practically in my backyard. I would love to wake up one day and hear AC, Oldies, Classic Hits, or Country on that frequency!
