94.7's New Calls: WNSH?

It's an interesting find. However there's a lot of assumptions and rumors piling into this. It's seems reasonable to assume there's a Nash-FM Country brand coming in some form, but very little and maybe no evidence at this point it's coming to NY on 94.7 or that's where the calls would go. NY seems like an odd choice for the flagship for country, never mind one called NASH FM. If country's to work in NY that's probably the last thing to image it as. Time will tell I suppose.

The RadioInsight article points out that the station in Minnesota where Cumulus parked the newly acquired WNSH call was formerly WGVY. That call sounds very similar to WDVY 106.3, the Cumulus station that has been simulcasting country WDBY, Kicks 105.5.
So Cumulus now has WDBY, and retains the WDVY call after the sale of 106.3 to Family Radio. And WGVY is available for this area. But has Cumulus parked the WGVY call anywhere?
The plot thickens...

@Mike: If Randy Michaels couldn't even score the WYNY calls for 101.9 (and as we know, he spent quite a pretty penny for 101.9 under his watch), it's safe to assume they're staying in call letter oblivion.

The WYNY call letters are currently assigned to Digital Radio Broadcasting’s 1450 AM Milford, PA, a full time 1k station.

So, maybe with the WGVY calls no longer with the station in Minnesota, this area will get a country trimulcast-WDBY (Kicks 105.5 in NY/CT), WDVY, WGVY? Perhaps The Wolf country simulcast in the Hudson Valley will become part of this? Or WFAS?
Possibilities abound.

Press Broadcasting will take a severe hit if this is true. The 94.7 signal cuts right through the 106.3 area of Thunder.

The last I heard 106.3/106.5, the majority of spots were in Monmouth/Ocean and had very little to do with Atlantic County.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

Crums owns two current country flamethrowers in Nashville. WSM-FM and WKDF-FM. WKDF was previously a hugely successful rock format for many years. WSM-FM was actually a pretty impressive AC station in the 80s before flipping to Country. They are in a virtual boring three-way tie with CC's WSIX-FM. A fight for senseless dominance and testosterone to prove country works in Music City, so no one will concede. Makes the radio dial so enjoyable for non-country music

I would agree that WNSH should be in Nashville before NYC. Wait a second. I've been hearing that call letters no longer matter in radio. Why should calls matter in NYC?

I can see the 'logic' of kicking off and playing the Nash FM format in NYC, but I can't see it being their flagship just because of being the #1 market. Would be rather embarrassing to hear it fail....in a market where country is all but doomed. Then again...

A fight for senseless dominance and testosterone to prove country works in Music City...

Actually, the same might be said about sports radio in about five to ten years! ::)

The same can be said RIGHT NOW for CHR in NYC.
