94.9 & 107.9 Jazz Tulsa streaming online

Don't know how long it's been this way, but just heard the other day LPFMs 94.9 & 107.9 / Jazz Tulsa, is now streaming live at http://jazztulsa.org.

With limited coverage, this is an excellent, excellent move. If you like smooth jazz in the office, why wouldn't you have this on at your desk all day?

I'm listening now; it's limited bandwidth, but it sounds pretty good... & I gotta give 'em credit: it's in stereo! That's something you can't even get over the air.

With CD 103.7 making inroads to the Tulsa survey area, it makes a lot of sense to do anything they can to shore up both listeners and underwriters.

To be fair, KOCD streams, too... but with Jazz Tulsa's local content, eliminating reception problems with this online stream should give them a win. Double their chances of winning if they're able to do any kind of promotion of their station around town.

(I actually wasn't able to get any sound out of the stream at http://www.smoothjazzoklahoma.com, but perhaps others have better luck. If you can't stream 103.7, that's a HUGE boost for Jazz Tulsa.)

This may not be as big a news story as KOOL or 99.5 changing format, or KBEZ fighting with KOOL over that 5.0 share for Christmas listeners... but I think it's pretty great.

I don't know anybody directly involved with Jazz Tulsa, but from what I hear on the air... these are some of the good guys. :)

I noticed it about three months ago when I was in Tulsa for the Keith Urban/Sugarland concert. They were mentioning it like it was new, but they could have been running that announcement for quite awhile. Like you, I noticed the sound quality of the stream was better than listening to it over the air. It's one of the few situations where I'd plug in my iPhone and stream it to my car radio rather than listen to it over the air if I still lived in Tulsa!

As for CD-103.7, the only local content, aside from the voicetracked weather updates it does, it has is the morning show. I'm wondering if the Tim Howard who does mornings is the same one who was at Z-104.5, Kool 106 and K 95 FM from about '88-'99. I'm glad Tulsa and Oklahoma City have smooth jazz, and I'd rather they do a satellite format than not do it at all. The BA Smooth Jazz format, however, is disappointing.

It's just nice there's one at all really. I agree a locally produced version would be great, however, it becomes pretty unaffordable to the ownership. Keeping the expenses real low on CD103.7 has allowed it to survive so far while building up a specialized audience of faithful listeners. So here's the million dollar question for those of you in Tulsa... How well do you receive them around the market? Their tower is quite a ways out of town...

OKCRadioGuy , it's honestly amazing how many places in Tulsa my car radio stops on it in seek mode. It's not perfect everywhere, but I can pick it up northeast of Tulsa in Owasso. It's crazy! They get in here better than Bott does, IMHO.

They (CD103.7) showed up in Tulsa's latest ratings books... wonder if they have "jazz" registered with Arbitron & they picked up some of Jazz Tulsa's numbers, or if that's all real listeners? I could see either one being possible.

It IS well done... first time I heard Dave Koz jocking a shift, I couldn't believe it. If satellite is what it takes to keep it afloat, so be it. The content is good.

Kent , I've got to agree that Jazz Tulsa's mix isn't what I'd choose (I'm more traditional jazz, but if you're going to say you're smooth jazz, don't play Natalie Merchant & Sarah McLachlan), but my wife (who is likely smack-dab the center of the target demo) loves the station and will sit through songs she's not crazy about because she likes the STATION as a whole... something you rarely hear these days.
