Don't know how long it's been this way, but just heard the other day LPFMs 94.9 & 107.9 / Jazz Tulsa, is now streaming live at http://jazztulsa.org.
With limited coverage, this is an excellent, excellent move. If you like smooth jazz in the office, why wouldn't you have this on at your desk all day?
I'm listening now; it's limited bandwidth, but it sounds pretty good... & I gotta give 'em credit: it's in stereo! That's something you can't even get over the air.
With CD 103.7 making inroads to the Tulsa survey area, it makes a lot of sense to do anything they can to shore up both listeners and underwriters.
To be fair, KOCD streams, too... but with Jazz Tulsa's local content, eliminating reception problems with this online stream should give them a win. Double their chances of winning if they're able to do any kind of promotion of their station around town.
(I actually wasn't able to get any sound out of the stream at http://www.smoothjazzoklahoma.com, but perhaps others have better luck. If you can't stream 103.7, that's a HUGE boost for Jazz Tulsa.)
This may not be as big a news story as KOOL or 99.5 changing format, or KBEZ fighting with KOOL over that 5.0 share for Christmas listeners... but I think it's pretty great.
I don't know anybody directly involved with Jazz Tulsa, but from what I hear on the air... these are some of the good guys.
