94.9 THE BULL????

Rumor has it that CC may flip Lite 94.9 to Country after the holidays. WDYT (What do you think?)

Another what, rumor, or country station?

If it's country stations, pleeeeaase don't tell me the Kicks/Eagle combo "has it covered." There are how many AC's, how many news/talkers, how many urbans, Hispanic stations, rock stations, etc., and 2 country stations "has it covered"? ???

SOMEBODY needs to take on Kicks/Eagle IN Atlanta. Do I think CC can handle it? No, but someone should try.

I smell BULL*hit.

If they do switch formats, how will this affect Q100?

At this point, Project 9-6-1 is a wildcard. It may do well, but no one knows. Also, 105.3 is an uncertainty no matter what it flips to. If it goes Spanish, there's a big question about how much it would cannibalize Viva's billings.

Right now, Lite FM is the one known (and pretty successful) commodity in the cluster. If CC blows it up, every station in the cluster will be a big question. That would be too much of a risk all at once. Despite the rumors, I can't see them flipping 94.9 until there's more certainty with the other stations.

Actually I believe CC could handle it. In Tampa it was assumed CBS's WQYK and WYUU had country covered for years. CC flipped WTBT in April '05, bringing down QYK and killing YUU. YUU flipped to Hispanic six months later and WTBT (now WFUS) is doing just fine as a competitor to QYK. I think CC could manage just fine.

I wouldn't flip 94.9 The Cash Cow. I would try the Bull at 105.3, which is still a great signal, and if it does well, then move it to a better signal.

Couple of points. QYK in Tampa is only off .2 of a point from the number it was before they flipped. WYUU flipped before they came in with FUS. It was easier to attack a single station and find something they arent serving in the format. Happened in St Louis as well. WIL gave up one property for a jazz I think, and KSD flipped immediately. A good move to have 4 share points in Tampa, but the stakes, circumstance and risk are different there than Atlanta.

They have to give up heritage thats fixable to fight heritage. why be the 3rd country station...spend money in a dogfight, in finding a definable hole in unserved country that can make as much as LTM.

How does Lite FM do in the ratings generally? (Anyone with access to 25-54 numbers?)

Then again B98.5 was voted number one station to listen to at work. ;D

They have been as high as 4th in fall05, but generally in the 11 or 12 range in the demo. they are currently 18th but the summer book has some variables that should disappear as we hit the fall 06. SBF is currently 13th and can be a 5, 6 or a 9 in the same periods.

I cant imagine what radio marketer with an upscale product wouldnt consider Lite on a buy. As for being #11 in the demo, that includes a lot of the urban stations which are discounted by the buyers to a degree.

I personally think Lite is another corner-cutting CC station, but aside from WSB-AM, I cant imagine there's a more attractive audience in the city on a commercial frequency.

I have to correct you no1uno.

Both QYK and YUU were country when TBT became FUS in April 2005. The same arguments being made now in Atlanta (why be the third country?) was argued then because CBS "owned the market" of country radio. CC went ahead any ways and killed YUU (which was simply there to protect QYK) and initially took a bite out of QYK. While QYK is off only .2 then from now, FUS did the job by splitting CBS' grip on country, and getting higher ratings and making more revenue than TBT had in years. YUU was forced to flip Hispanic in the fall of '05 and is doing well as the lone (for now) FM Hispanic in Tampa.
