What's the next move at CC-LR? I predict KMJX will follow suit and change up programming. Try this one on for size: KMJX could be urban in a couple of months. Think about it! Clear Channel loves to have combos to offer sales. Why not do some more to help the cause by going directly at KIPR.

It makes sense to me and now would be the time to attack Citadel's Urban department with all the infighting going on over there. I would bet CC could even steal some of their better staff members right now.

BLLAAA HA HA HA HA COUGH HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
Don't bet your life savings on that.

If you're right I'll eat mushrooms.
I HATE MUSHROOMS! But you'll have to
buy them 'cause I don't think I could
into 50 Cent with much street cred YO!
I've only been shot twice!

Werd!

Have you looked at the ratings of KMJX? They are the lowest they have ever been. How do you want the mushrooms, raw or fried? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say within the next 2 books there will be no more "Magic 105". CC looks at numbers and cost! KMJX is costing them too much money and they are not getting it back in the form of ratings or revenue. You've been 'informed'! Tommy is gone and most of the loyalty! It's a matter of time. Yo Yo Yo and all that jazz!

You are obviously the type that thinks they know everything
and arguing is in vain. See ya in two books! Leave the shrooms
at home.

Incorrect, my little redheaded friend! I hate arguing, but I love predicting what's going to happen with stations that are losing! KMJX is losing, being beat by 13 other Little Stations! This is not a point that can be argued. It's fact, just look at the ratings. From the point of view of ownership or upper management, why would a company continue to go down a path that does nothing for the company.

I understand your concerns being the afternoon jock on Magic, but in the big scheme of things, it's moot! Hopefully you'll remain on staff and life be that much better for you. But I can assure you, "change is a comin'!"

Two books it is!

So...you know how much Magic is billing? Sometimes, if you're only looking at those nifty 12+ numbers, ratings can be very deceiving. Is Magic hitting it's targets? Do you know for sure? Do tell then...

Just asking/thinking out loud.

I know for the last 4 years that they have not hit their goals! That came from two different sales geeks that still work for the CC-LR. They even dropped their target budget goal when Tommy Smith left and still can't hit the mark.

Do I know the exact amount of money made by KMJX, no. I do know that CC-LR is second in revenue to Citadel and has been for 3 years now. For a company with 4 big sticks and a fifth smaller stick, this is just...em....well...SAD! Not to mention a company that has the number 1 station in the market! KMJX use to be a powerhouse. It's time for something new. Anything new!

Like I said, "Change is a comin'!"

My thoughts exactly. The familiarity and advertiser loyalty may keep Magic around for a while, and they may be solid in the target audience.

Like you said, we don't know what the dollar flow is...

If I recall correctly when 94.9 first went on as KZ95, they did fair in the ratings, but the known quantity of Magic put them under eventually.

Re: 94.9 yesterday, 105.1 tomorrow...whatever...

not going to argue with you or anyone else about this...but things to ponder:

- citadel has how many AMs that CC doesn't have any?
- CC has had how much upper level turnover in the past couple of years that citadel hasn't had (that i know of lately?)
- the only thing consistent over @ CC has been KSSN and KMJX as far as formats go. now that it looks like there's some hopefully solid mgmt over on col. glenn road, we'll see if the 'heritage' stays that way.

maybe it's bad sales people? didn't think so. all sales people know exactly what they're doing and know all information on everything that goes on in the building. right. right?

my bet is that those 'brand names' will stay and they'll fix the 'throw-away' parts that they can't sell.

- unless you're the radio GM, his assistant, a regional VP or a Mays; you really don't know of any other changes 'a comin', now do you?

and...how many times does this get stressed: the 12+ numbers really don't tell much, if anything. that is just a beauty contest. it's all about hitting the right targets with the particular products.

or am i just an idiot talking out the side of my neck?

just askin'.

Re: 94.9 yesterday, 105.1 tomorrow...whatever...

I'll go with the latter! The 12+ number is a beauty contest, but it is a refection of the bigger picture. When a station like KMJX for over 15 year was a constant top 3 station, and for the last several years has been nothing but a constant slip down the hill, then one has to ask themselves, why? It's easy, everyone else is doing it better. CC has been doing lots and lots of things wrong and I believe they are on the right track now. With that said, It's right to change and rid themselves of a blacksheep station. Tommy leaving, lots of turn-over and some really bad radio has left them with nothing else to do but change. Start fresh and improve the bottom line.

If you dig into the target demo of KMJX you'll see the exact same trend the 12+ number has shown. A significant drop. (men 25-55, IE: Spring 04: 9.5 compared to Spring 05: 7.7.; men 25-49 IE: Spring 04: 10 compared to Spring 05 7.8) Makes me wish I had the Summer 05 book. If someone cares to share those numbers on KMJX, please do.

It bothers me that a great signal like 105.1 is wasted on such a Badly Done format and the programming. I'm sure the new management, being that don't really know where KMJX was at one time, will pull the plug soon. (((2 more books))).

Re: 94.9 yesterday, 105.1 tomorrow...whatever...

I don't have any idea who ArRadioMan is but I do
respect his opinion. But I'll sleep easy knowing
that you don't have to be a meteorologist to be
WRONG about the weather. If he's right I'm eatin'
shrooms. But when we prove his ((2 BOOKS)) prediction
WRONG please remind him over and over and OVER AGAIN.

Thanks for a fun debate ArRadioMan!

Re: 94.9 yesterday, 105.1 tomorrow...whatever...

It's OK. The only numbers not legal to use is the current book (Summer 05). Previous numbers are ok to "talk" about as long as it's not being used as a sales tool for advertising, posting the entire book package, or giving away secrets. No copy and paste, either. Also, notice I never credited the source of those numbers. I never mentioned that they were "Birch"! blahhhhaa! Those were good old days. KSSN was a master at screwing up Birch returns.

For those that don't know, Birch was a ratings service that used phone calls to find the numbers. They folded up shop back in the early 80's, I think.

Anyway, KSSN had a contest that was simple and effective. They had the "I listen to Kissin'" phone contest. If KSSN called you and you answered the phone "I listen to Kissin', you would win lots of money. It worked. I think KSSN single handley shut down Birch.

Re: 94.9 yesterday, 105.1 tomorrow...whatever...

i learn something every day!

birch - them were the good ol' days. much like when the gavin report was copied on blue paper, fmqb was bound with 1 staple in the upper left-hand corner...

great. now sharpe is going to make fun of me.

i don't think magic is going anywhere. it's not losing money. it's making money. i think that's what corporate-types are concerned with anyways.

Birch was around until at least '87. KZOU beat KSSN in the Summer 86 Birch by 0.1 point. We partied for days.<P ID="signature">______________

I believe it was '92 when Birch folded. Arbitron actually bought Birch-Scarborough. They kept the Scarborough portion but shut down Birch.
