94.9A permit for Montauk goes for 198k??

I don't know if I'm alone on this, but after reading in Scott Fybush's NERW that a permit for 94.9A licensed to Montauk went for 198,000 in the recent FCC Auction, I was a little shocked! Does that seem like a lot of money for a signal that covers very little population to anyone else?

I also wonder what this says about the asking price for WELJ, also licensed to Montauk with a pretty minimal signal which is now up for sale.

One more question that I hope someone else can help me out with: I see that the table of allotments was altered in the late 80's or early 90's to include 94.9 and 104.7 for Montauk, yet 104.7 was built in the early 90's and 94.9 is just being auctioned off now... does anybody know why?

Considering 104.7 was built at a total cost of about $600K in 1993. (including building the tower)... YES, $198K just for the CP seems high... Also, keep in mind that 107.1 in Hampton Bays just sold for $600K, and that frequency covers a lot more people... I too will be very curious to see what the price tag is for WELJ and whether or not it continues to be run from CT, or comes back home to the East End...

As for 94.9, the CP was first awarded in the 90's to a company called "Women In Broadcasting", or something similar... (Calls were to be WVZC, if memory serves) They never got it build on their own and tried to strike an 11th hour deal with the owners of 104.7 to keep the CP alive, but that deal didn't come together. 94.9 was deleted from the FCC Database, only to reappear in the last auction 15 years later...

Can't believe just the license sold for 198k when Atlantic Broadcasting's 5 stations, office building, and towers sold for 4.2 million. One of the stations was a 50000 watt FM.

WELJ, serving more FISH and SEAGULLS than any other station! ;D

Wow... way out at the end of the Island, with more than 90% of it's coverage over water! What a waste!

After looking at this permit, it turns out the owner is CSI Media Research, which is really John J. Fuller, owner of 3 CT stations (WBMW Ledyard, WWRX Pawcatuck, WMRQ-FM Waterbury, and W246CC Bolton, as 'Bomba 97.1" repeating WMRQ-FM-HD2) and one in Vermont (WTNN Bristol.)
