94.9's New Format

Everyone's talking about MOJO moving up the dial, but no one has said what the new 94.9 format will be. Any news on this front?

Any pending format change at 96.5?

Rumor is 94.9 is about to become country... Better signal for Star.

96.5??? dunno there.

Could we have another top 40 CHR? I know Cumulus has Q100 in Atlanta Hot 102.5 in Lexington KY which does compete with CC owned 104.5 The Cat. Kiss 107.1 has no competition with Q102 as it is.

Would be funny to end up with the format they had prior to MOJO. I would not bet on Smooth Jazz....but top 40 or rock would be my choice if Star does not move here.

I'd love to do a Radio Free Hawaii type of format on 94.9, but the best we can realistically hope for is a Jack-type format. (Max FM really doesn't fill the hole for a Jack, because the signal is so bad.)

As long as we're speculating, let me add this to the conspiracy theories.

Convince Cecil Heftel to purchase 94.9 while at the same time convince Randy Michaels into purchasing 101.9 and let the games begin.

I smell a dumpster dive coming up! How about 94.9 give away a million bucks using 6 TRS-80 Radio Shack computers tied together to decide the winner. Yes95! LOL

Looks like 94.9's new calls will be WPRV. Since Star is moving to 94.9, this could be the future call sign of 96.5, that is, unless they ditch their present calls altogether with the move.

WPRV.....Power Country? I don't get it. If it's country, I wish someone would take the old Truckin' Bozo MUSIC format and talk. It's much more palatable. You can't get enough Charlie Douglass comedy bits anymore....or even hearing Kenny Price.

WPRV- Prove 94.9 We'll prove to all that this was one stupid move! :)

All of this makes perfect sense in the grand scheme of things. Mojo's IP is sold, and frees a prime stick in the market. WYGY moves to what has been described on these boards as a "blowtorch." With a stronger local signal, the "new" country station is louder and prouder and Cumulus can devote their resources to chasing WUBE's share of the market. Cumulus avoids going head to head with two competitors and can concentrate picking a fight with an established heritage signal.

Evidently Cumulus believes they can make their money back by beefing up their country presence. Only time has the answer to that question. Knowing these things, whatever appears on 96.5 will likely not be a format that already exists in the market. At least, not one with strong competition.

WPRV. The River perhaps? Maybe these calls eventually go to 96.5 with an AAA-oriented River. Wishful thinking.
