94 WIP will not work

I think 94 WIP needs changes. It still feels like the outdated, tired product like it always has. The new imaging still sounds like it was from 1993. The morning show is a circus, Barkann and Reese are sort of boring, Gargano and Macnow are ok, Rob Ellis is bland, Big Daddy Graham is good though. I don't really think moving to FM will change it all. Everyone who listens to FM and not AM who listens to sports are already at 97.5 The Fanatic. CBS is 2 years late to the party. 97.5 The Fanatic feels so much more refreshing. Mike and Mike are good, Brian Baldinger & Harry Mayes are very good, Tony Bruno and Harry Mayes are great, I wish that show was longer, Missanelli is sold too. Their weekend lineup is very good too. Just because CBS does well with sports in other cities, doesn't mean it can thrive here. They are doing well because its new and they have younger hosts. If WIP-FM doesn't work, what would CBS make 94.1?

Possibly a return to WYSP and the rock music.

Danikayser84 nails it. Dumping a format after a month is more than stupid. And phils07, as tired-sounding as it may seem to you, WIP is like sister KYW. Both are established brands that their audiences are comfortable with.

I doubt WYSP will be returning any time soon... like I said, if CBS were to indeed buy 106.9 (and sell off 610), I'd sooner expect KYW-FM or WPHT-FM than "107 WYSP" :)

Although the latest PPM ratings only show a partial month for WIP-FM, it appears to be working. And the ad dollars are certainly there, even at 5 in the morning.

I've got a better idea! Let's lease out the 94 FM signal to New World Radio and give it a full 24 hour schedule to broadcast to Philadelphia's immigrant and ethnic communities.

Wow the imaging(esp that horrible jingle) is bad. Totally agree about WIP's midshow...its quite unlistenable.

WIP on AM was being the Fanatic,,an FM station.

IP will be the ultimate winner on FM. They own the sports brand in Philly.

I like the Fanatic bit they'll lose like every AC station that has gone up against B 101.

I don't see Greater Media giving up on their sports station.

If 97.5 The Fanatic fails, will it go back to 950 AM or just go end?

That will be losing. Greater Media won't continue to pay the salaries of the hosts on an AM only station. 950 gets brokered after that.

I want the Fanatic to succeed. But they really need to get the Phillies rights away from CBS.

94 WIP Sept rating 2.4
610 WIP SEpt 1.5

97.5 Sept- 1.4
950 WPEN -0.2

Not a big fan of how Greater Media is handling 97.5 and 950. They have the ESPN programming they must carry and to be honest alot of the off peak jocks just are not up to standards for a market as big as Philly. Missanelli is overrated imo, rarely piques my interest.

WIP? Never ever listen to the morning show. Until that crew is out I listen to Mike + Mike.
Love the addition of Barkan but hes offset by Ike. Like Ike as a person, seems like a very cool guy, but hes just not for me on the radio. If they had given Barkan a more seasoned host that would have been a formidable show. Never listen.

Duh Cuz another likeable guy that I just cant listen to. Way way too cartoonish for my tastes but I can see how some people would like him. Rob Ellis excellent. Not a fan of Big Daddy at all. The way he interrogates his callers is just hysterical. Dont know why anyone would put up with style.Perhaps in the wrong profession should have been a police interrogator.

Think WIP FM ratings would improve dramatically with some fresh blood. That staff has been around for decades. Too long. Even Eskin who was supposed to have been let go is hanging around.

Ratings short term are going to take a hit. The Eagles are so bad they are starting to become irrelvant. After an initial outrage listeners will begin to lose interest. The Phillies collapse will kill Oct/ Nov ratings.

I really hope 97.5 The Fanatic wins the battle. I would hate having WIP as my only sports choice.

Tend to agree. I like having an alternative to WIP but 97.5 has to get its act ogether.

With the ratings 97.5 are pulling they seem to be more in survival mode than winning any battles.Any station that is pulling guys off the street(Phil Mt Airy- EJ- Contest Winners lol) and giving them on air shifts shouldnt survive in a media market as big and important as Philadelphia.

Quiet as kept the best thing that could happen is one of these sports stations folds. Right now both have almost identical formats and in many cases you will hear the same caller on both stations within an hour of each other.

WIP isnt going anywhere despite needing some tinkering. The brand name is way too strong
