94 WIP will not work

Dude we get you have a soccer agenda but you have to use common sense. Soccer is #6 on the list of priorities (if it's even on the list) of the average sports fan in this town. As much as I hate to say it being a big baseball fan, the Eagles are still #1 and then right behind them it's the Phillies. Flyers are 3rd, Sixers and the Big 5 basketball school fight it out for 4 and 5 and then maybe the Union if that person is a soccer fan. You have to cater to what your audience is into. Not be ESPN and try to program the likes and dislikes of your audience. That's why that network gets so much flack.

According to this article ( http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/soccer/132868448.html ), WIP will be the home of Union games next season:

"And perhaps the best symbol of the team's acceptance among hardcore Philly sports fans is that sports talk radio WIP - home for years to much soccer-bashing - will broadcast 17 Union games next season."

Soccer doesn't work on radio OR television for 1 reason.... NO COMMERCIAL BREAKS ! Adding that to an already failed attempt to resemble a competent sports station, can only accelerate the plummeting cume and t.s.l. :-* David Lee Roth had a better 12+ cume than these Jackmonkeys. What continues to amaze is the years of moronic moves rolling down from the C.B.S. braintrust has yet to cease the end of year bonuses. Next up on Philly's sports station.... World Chess semifinals followed by the Canadian Curling competition. ::)

Just because the station broadcasts some games doesn't mean listeners wangt to talk about it. Also important to note that the games will be on the AM, which has become a dumping ground lately for games no one care about...Westwood One College Football, the NFL games that are non Eagles. If IP were still only an AM station, the Union games would not be broadcast.

But the Fanatic gets some criticism----why in the world would you carry Rutgers Football. You should be carrying Penn State.

Because WPEN-FM is licensed to Burlington, NJ, not too, too far from Piscataway?

i can't see how rutgers games would make a dime for GM. nobody, and i mean NOBODY in philadelphia cares about rutgers football, and that's where 97.5's signal is. if you're going to run college football in philly, it has to be penn state.

I have heard that Penn State requires stations that want football to take basketball as well. That was a deal-breaker for WIP years ago and probably remains one for WPEN. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Rutgers is paying 97.5 for coverage. Rutgers games have been on GM's WCTC in New Brunswick for ages, so they probably have a good relationship.

Your right, nobody in Philly but, last time I checked ~1/2 of the Philly Metro area is located across the river in NJ. Jersey does care about Rutgers. I personally care about TCNJ football because I went there.
