94 Z

I will have to get my wife to translate the recipe card, I don't speak "kitchen". And I will post it, but Tom would point out that it may get done between now and Christmas!

Christmas of what year? Jonathan (can I call you Jonathan) you old Ken-doll, how are you and Barbie and your 14 little Midges and Scooters? Actually, I could care less.

I'm sure you know who gave you the recipe and that it was Commander Dave (With that handle he must have been in the Navy or Marines, or Coast Guard, right?) but do you remember the other Dave I was talking about, whose air name was Steve Rivers? He may not have had Dave's recipe, but he could flat out cook on the air.

Check your email, if finally corrected it. I sent you something separately.

And Chris Watson, producer extraordinaire, it is so cool to hear from you. Have your people call my people. I love this website. I've now been in touch with at least four people that had dropped off my radar.

Chris, mabye you can dig up and digitize the bit we wrote and you produced, "The Best of Bishop Desmond Tutu." Good stuff that was. Whip Woman would be fun to hear, too.

Tom/Art

Dearest Mr. Long:

I'm right with you about this site. I'd often wondered about you, ever since you were released from prison I lost track of you after leaving Raleigh. I have digitized "Whip Woman" and will have my people send your people a note via the e-mail address in your Radio-Info profile. I'm sure I can scare up additional incriminating bits as well, including the Desmond Tutu bit -- remember seeing him speak at Duke Chapel? One of the perks of knowing an ace news person. Eyes to the e-mail, sir...!

Chris

I too am looking for somebody on this site. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Sherry Scooterpie? This site has been very helpful in finding some other people, but not Pat Patterson.

Sherry Scooterpie and I were very close in my G105 days. Last I saw of her she was headed into the sunset with a guy named Dirk.

Anyone know who plays bass on Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love for You"? I heard that song the other day and it was really jamming.

"She's a Beauty" by The Tubes was actually the first song I heard after 94-Z came on the air, but I wasn't in the usual signal range at the time. I heard Whitney my first time in the Triangle listening to 94-Z. As I recall, the song was playing in the Durham VA Hospital. Duke's hospital across the street had color zones helping you find things, and I walked over to get a map of those because I had been there five years earlier and didn't. The VA also had color zones to help people find things. Different shades of gray! :D

Chimp, I think you'd be better to lay off the weed before you post a message. Your message doesn't make sense.

Makes perfect sense to me. I am describing my first and second 94-Z memories.

Just this morning I was hearing the tv news and when the Valonda Calloway threw it over to the Elizabeth Gardner, I heard in the back of my mind "What's the weather, weather wench?"

Sometimes that happens when I'm watching the David Crabtree throw it over to the Greg Fishel, but it's not as cute, it's weirder. Cause I could see the Greg Fishel one day playing the weather wench part as a gag.... ;)

Jonathon Rush, Chris Watson/Kato, Art Sloan/Tom Long...

Eric Bohlen here and I found this thread and just wanted to say HI! I am the Prod Director/Asst. Program Director at Citadel Broadcasting of Knoxville (Tennessee) which is WIVK, WNOX, WOKI, WNML-AM/FM, and WNRX. I've been here 14 years. After leaving 94Z I worked at G105 for a while, then went with Gary Dickson to Pittsburgh (he's still there by the way - he's OPS Manager for WORD/WPIT and you can contact him through www.garydickson.com), went back to G105, then went to 95SX in Charleston with Michael D (he's a vet now!), went to work with Sandy Smith again this time in Virginia Beach and finally headed to East Tennessee.

Rednecks In Space was originally done for ABC Radio Networks...and it was re-born sometime later as Rednek Star Trek for ProMedia/SJS. The voices on Redneck In Space were Kyle Whitford, Jim Merkel (from Pittsburgh) and me. The voices on Rednek Star Trek were Randy Brooks (Allen Orsini) and Steve Shaw (from Virginia Beach) and me.

To all the Brian and Kathy haters - hey, we did the best we could! And both Brian and Kathy are working in Chicago (separately) so maybe it was MY crappy producing that held them back in Durham! But you have to admit that Boomer Johnson was a good time-filler. (Cecil was the name of my prize-winning pig from Fuquay-Varina by the way.)

I have some audio files from the 94Z days and the G105 Wake-Up Crew Days (both with Bill Jordan and later with Brian & Cathy Cruise and Brian and Kathy Hart)... I'll need to dig that stuff out and share at some point.

Ah yes...MUFFIN! My pig was Muffin in some of the bits...but it was also Cecil in at least a few bits and/or song parodies...I'm thinking it was Cecil in the Madonna parody "Just To Be My Hog"...which actually might have been pre-Boomer come to think of it. But I do remember it being Muffin...maybe in the bit "Bo Don't Know Boomer"?? I'll have to try and dig up the old "Best Of" tapes and see what I can find...

Thanks for the head-slap though!

Boomer/Eric! Excellent to see your response. Glad that you have managed to manage to stay in radio for all these years. I said goodbye a little over three years ago. I'd love to be able to click on a link or an attachment that would allow me to hear "Freshmans," performed by the incomparable Buckwheat, my favorite collaboration with you. I'm sure others in the reading audience would enjoy it, too, if you happen to have that one available.

Keep up that great radio work.

Tom Long

Freshmens! I had forgotten all about that one! I will have to see if I can find that one somewhere!

I am currently listening to a "Best Of" The 94Z Morning Zoo right now that has a Twilight Zone parody of "The Research Triangle" where this family from the North traveling to Miami gets stuck at a diner in RTP eating "groits" and suddenly turning Southern! Classic! You, Chris Watson, Scooter, Gary Dickson, Tall Donna...and before that Rich McTighe and Nola Roeper...all freakin' geniuses! At my best I came up with crap like "Yesterday's Weather with Reggie Williams...for all of those of you who missed it yesterday."

I found a Cecil the Pig reference in a parody song "No Worries, That's Fuquay" that I produced in Pittsburgh for Bill Jordan and Cathy Cruise...still looking for "Just To Be My Hog" and "We Didn't Stop In Fuquay"...

???eating "groits" What's Groits?? Gee, I wish I could have been a big time 94Z jock like yuz guys', don't you Sniff?? We really missed the boat! :-\

Don't feel too badly about missing the 94Z Morning Zoo boat, Ape Man. The boat was the Titanic.

Boom-Boom/Eric, etc. Great to hear from you again. Oh...by the way...don't believe a word of what Tom Long has to say. He is living the "Gay" lifestyle ever since Kathy Hart rejected his advances and his huge SWANZESTICKER. ;D ;D ;D Anyway....Eric..... I still look at the "Dwight Video" of OUR daze at the "G." that you produced. If you'd like a copy on DVD.....send me a snail mail address and I'll forward it to you. Same at you Tommy Boy...you freakin' Freak!
