940 EVEN WITH 610 IN AM DRIVE?

This blogger is claiming that progressive talker WINZ is ahead of conservative talker WIOD in Men 25-54 and just behind them in Persons 25-54. Is that correct and if so, why?

Statistically, they are tied in men with a 2.2 for WIOD and a 2.3 for WINZ, 16th and 17th... it really does not matter, they are so far down they are not going to get bought on these numbers. In 25.54 WINZ has a 1.3 and WIOD a 1.4, 22nd and 24th. Even worse.

The statement being made here is that AM talk radio in English is not working in the Miami market.

Hmmmm... Neil Rogers sure as hell works, and last time I checked, he was on an AM English talk radio station in Miami. Hell, he can do his show two days a week during the summer and STILL bring in the ratings! (no offense to George)

Me thinks the statement being made here is that CLEAR CHANNEL doesn't have a clue about how to do AM English talk radio in Miami.

Neil has a 2.3 12+ to the 4.8 on WAQI.

I'm curious as to the story that the PPM will tell when it's rolled out in Miami/Ft. Laud.

I thought you were making 25.54 comparison's in your earlier example? Neil is ranked fourth with Men in THAT age group.

That was because someone wanted to know if a blog that claimed WINZ beat WIOD was telling the truth.

Right now a pirate radio station could pull bigger numbers than WIOD's morning show. Since Dave Lamont got booted the fill-in hosts have been really awful.

Especially Kelly Craig..she needs to stick with T.V. She is THE WORST
I had to tune out, and when I heard her on AGAIN this week it proved to me C.C. really doesn't know what they are doing. I turned off the atation right away
Why to T.V. anchors think they can run a radio show anyway?

Trust me, talent and ability has nothing to do with it. CC would put Terri Schiavo in front of a mic if she'd do it for $9 an hour.

Sad that this comes to battering every other station instead of recognizing what a great job Nicole Sandler is doing for WINZ. It's not like there are three conservative talkers in Miami to split the audience, as in Portland.

Your point is well taken, Smedge. Nicole at the present time is doing not only a stellar job of hosting, but is also producing the show--a job she's well-qualified for in view of the fact that her past producing credits include the highly-rated Mark and Brian show (KLOS/Los Angeles, where she also had an on-air role) and Bob Grant (WMCA/New York). Her day at WINZ is a long one.

Anyone who knows anything about radio knows that the over-radioed and extremely diverse Miami radio market is very difficult for anyone these days--especially someone launching a new show--as Nicole did less than a year ago, with very little in the way of outside promotion. But cream rises to the top and it's beginning to do so for Nicole. If I were a betting man, I would bet that the best is yet to come.

I guess that comes under the category of "it can't get any worse" since the show in the all important 25-54 sales demo is 24th in the market. Let´s keep this in perspective... there is no morning audience for either WINZ or wiod.

Let's do more than keep this in perspective, let's keep this real... Nicole Sandler does a POOR job of producing and hosting the morning show at WINZ. I am listening to her this morning, only because I want to keep tabs on Tropical Storm Fay. She's been "teasing" this story about John McCain lifting his "cross in the dirt" story for the past hour and twenty minutes... only to reveal that she doesn't have the actual audio... rather she plans to read the transcript.

Okay, since I'm listening online, I googled the story myself... it took me 20 seconds to find the audio and download it to my computer. Is Nicole the only person in her studio? Just sounds so poorly produced I'm embarassed for her!

Yes, Nicole is the only person in the studio! It is embarassing that in Market #12 she doesn't have a producer or any help on her show!

For all you other "Nicole Sandlers" out there having to host AND self-produce... here's a clever way of downloading newsworthy audio from the web:

1) buy a Mac... the following probably works on a PC, but PC's are soooo 1998! Seriously... buy a Mac!
2) dump Safari and Internet Explorer... download Firefox
3) get the free add-on to Firefox called "DownloadHelper"
4) Install both and go to YouTube... download any video you see by clicking the revolving colored balloons in your Firefox toolbar
5) Save the ".flv" file to your desktop or someplace else where you can find it easily
6) Okay... you need one more piece of FREE software... "MpegStreamclip"
7) Once installed, find your .flv file, ctrl+click on the .flv file and open with MpegStreamclip
8) Inside MpegStreamclip, select File... Export Audio...

Whew! You've got your topical newsworthy audio ready for replay back over the air... Good luck! Hope this helps.

and seriously... get a Mac!

BTW... hears the McCain and Obama stuff from the Saddleback forum... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKpAajwwYZE

Ummm. No, but thanks for asking.
And thanks for the advice to "dump the PC and buy a Mac." Obviously you don't work for CC.

HA!!! Are you kidding me? How can anyone even defend this show as anything other than what it truly is- awful?

Spending 3 hours a day listening to a boring, monotone host who really knows nothing about the topics or subject material is someone's idea of a good talk radio show. While you're at it, make sure you throw in the constant talking about her "9-year-old daughter who I adopted from Kazakhstan (because we all needed the reminder every mention)," as well as the shrill voice that yells at disagreeable callers before she suddenly hangs up on them... oh, yeah... sounds like a gem.

My flies on the wall within CC have told me numerous times that she has plenty of people around her willing to help on the show. The problem is that she is so insecure with them actually doing a better job or sounding better if she brings them on the air that she would prefer to go it alone, play the victim, and then complain about it later. There's a reason that she didn't have any specific audio... she won't allow anyone who works on or near her show to do any of that work for her. Did you know that her board-ops aren't even allowed to pick out bumper music to come back from break? Rather than spending her commercial breaks prepping for the next segment, she is too busy searching for obscure music to play that she thinks fits her uneducated opinions.

Not much help should be expected from the PD... after all, that's the same guy who fired Dave Lamont without a viable replacement. Plus, I think "Charles In Charge" is going for some kind of record in actually sinking 2 radio stations simultaneously.

Just because one thinks they have an excuse doesn't mean they should use it. Instead of whining about hosting and self-producing (because you don't ask any staff for help, and the staff that is around strongly dislikes you), just get better. The Miramar compound is already full of talentless morning shows... literally, and The Nicole Sandler Show is one of them.
