940 News - Format Flip??

Perhaps Mr. Letang might know since he works there...

I'm hearing you guys are flipping formats. Is there any truth to the rumour, or am I out to lunch?

I'm hearing AM 940 - Montreal Radio.

Much like how www.580news.com takes you to 580 CFRA. Heh.
Ottawa never did get an all news station, but seriously, in Montreal's case, it wouldn't surprise me if, this Wednesday becomes the end of the all news format, and the begining of a talk format, because all news is one of the most expensive formats to run, with low ratings, in a place where many speak french.
How are the ratings for info 690?...that station is the french version of 940 news. Yes? No?

The same thing happens in the states, in places where Spanish population has grown. (for example) and an english language music station becomes an all spanish music and/or information station.

Also, I may be wrong, but another reason for the failure of 940 News in Montreal may be because of many bilingual people there with french as their first language, and english as their second. They'll gladly speak english, when necessary, but prefer to get their news and information in french.

Nope...English stations in Montreal sell on the Anglophone numbers only, so while francophones who want news/information in French but would listen to an Enlish music station may affect overall numbers, they don't affect the ones that determine the profitability of the station.

And yes, 960's ratings are realtively just as bad.

According to the release the station fed this afternoon to Milkman Unlimited, starting tomorrow morning it's going to be "940 Montreal-Your News, Your Views." It's wall to wall news in the drivetimes and noon hour, with talk blocks late mornings with Aphrodite Salas and Andreas Bjornson, and afternoons with Charles Adler (ex-WRKO Boston host).

Sounds like a Montreal version of WBZ to me...
