There is an excitement in the air if you're a radio person in the Dayton area. Big drama lately with Z93 and Channel 945. Z's morning show is responding to the rating takers of the morning mess. The bad thing though, is that Z is making themselves look stupid. The Channel 945 staff is young and crazy and hip, where as the Z staff is old and balding and tired. Last time I checked, the percentages don't play well when an old out-of-shape boxer fights the young in-shape determined boxer. Z should just lay low and take it. One way or another they're going to get K.O.'d! It had to happen right? All good things come to an end, well, if you call them a good thing. Another thing I heard Channel's night guy Drake is going to Miami, Fla.??? Anyone know anything about this? Could be rumors. Either way, I love radio battles.

YAAAWWNN!!!

Yes, it's so exciting.

Two teeny bopper stations with juvenile staffs fighting each other. Golly!! That's never happened before! Tell us all about it.

You obviously work there, so give us the scoop.

you guys must be rock station guys huh? Not being mean, but what the hell are you talking about. I listen to KDWB in Minnesota alot and Z100 cause i'm from that area. Channel 945 sounds just like those stations and a little bit better in some aspects. Maybe it's that Dayton is just a weak radio market in the first place. Or maybe you just never made it and are bitter. Gotta be one them!
But all and all, Channel is still very new and no I don't work there.

Oh yes! I'm sooo bitter...

You're so right jaddy! How could I be so foolish as to let my emotions get the better of me! Oh! I'm such a fool! God have mercy on my soul!

Or...it could be that you're a typical radio youngster who doesn't get that people don't care about two 3 share stations in market #58 that have been going at each other for years to prove what? Which one can get the 2.9 and which can get the 3.1? What happened to the great Channel 94-5 that was going to take over the world? Oh yeah! WGTZ beat them. Who cares? According to R&R, the average 12+ shares for both stations since Spring '04: WGTZ 3.2, WDKF 2.8. Yeah! That 94-5 is really getting me excited!

Boring!

Well if they were one station, they would be the #6 station overall. You better pay attention to those stations because they represent a 6 share of the Dayton Market. Guaranteed the other stations are paying attention to them!

Re: Oh yes! I'm sooo bitter...

Radio One is the real winner, because their Z93 and CC's Channel 94-5 cannibalize each other's audience enough to make WDHT the real powerhouse among young-skewing stations.
______________

What kind of logic is that?

What two stations add up to is irrelevant, unless they're cluster-mates which these two are not.

Following that logic, you'd better watch out for WBZI/WEDI and WDAO because together they beat both WDKF and WGTZ.
Edited by Oscar on 08/23/05 03:25 PM.

Why does someone always quote the 12+ numbers to argue something like this? Then someone has to post to remind that person that the 12+ is nice, but isn't a good representation of how a station is reaching its target.
94.5's morning show beat Z's morning show in 4 or 5 of the target chr demos, including the 12+ you're so proud to quote. And if you have been in the business for more than a week, you know that a station builds itself from mornings up. On top of that, 94.5's night numbers have caught up to Z's in only 1 book! This is a newly branded 6kW station going up against a heritage station with much better coverage. So it seems that 94.5 is doing their job by systematically taking listeners away from Z for good, and maybe it won't be a see-saw battle like it was when Kiss was the flavor of the week.

Dude, please...

You're splitting hairs.

The guy comes on and acts like we're all supposed to be excited about this HOT CHR battle. 12+ numbers are a pretty good indication that this is not much of a battle. What are the differences in the breakdowns? Are they significant? Are they winning by multiple shares? What are their positions? Did 'DKF take huge cume ot TSL from 'GTZ?

This is not like the Q102/KISS battle of the mid 90s, when KISS KILLED a heritage monster Q102 in every possible demo, including 12+ and went to the top while Q plummetted. This is the battle of two 3 share stations that's not at all exciting.

And, my little friend, I'm sure I've been in this business longer than you've been potty trained.

Boring!

Granted the morning show has won in a few demos for the first time in a long time. But a true CHR station starts with the night show, and everything from there follows. DKF nights have been consistent in the top 4 in all demos since Drake took over awhile back. He killed GTZ in the last 2 trends. And crushed 1029 in the winter book. Nights are already on fire at Channel.

Kahuna...you're killing me here. Why did you delete my post? Was it because I said "turd" (it's not like I said "booooooooger!"), or was it because I was so blunt. My bad...but the truth remains...neither station is a player in a market the size of Dayton with those kind of numbers (unless you have a killer sales force...which I haven't seen in many many years). My statement about 92.9 and 94.5 weren't personal attacks, but just telling it like it is.

CHR is not really a "teeny-bopper" format. Does it appeal to kids...yes...does it appeal to 18-34 females? YES. Does it even appeal to some 40+ females..absolutely. Also I remember Q102 and WEBN in the mid 90s having some excellent and entertaining fights that you may describe as "juvenile". The Station You Threw Up with...Q gives away a house, EBN gives a way a house...to blow up...the whole website deal with Jacor buying q102.com and using it to parody Q. Not every station is going to be WARM 98 or "K99.1 where we will stop the music to have our djs tell you how we don't stop our music while they read a liner card filled with endless radio cliche's"....Thank God
Edited by titoisradio on 08/26/05 10:00 PM.

Who cares about Z-93 or 94.5, its Dayton, everything about Dayton including the radio stations are terrible. If any of the morning shows were any good they sure as H*LL wouldn't be stuck in Dayton, Ohio.

Interesting. I didn't see it that way. And if *you're* not excited by it, don't post anything. Move on to something you are excited about and post there...or do you just like to come in and bash others and talk about how you forgot more about radio than they ever knew...or, I'm sorry....how you have been in the biz longer than the other person's been potty trained. Remember you were there once too.

Although I am from Dayton I have to admit that radio in Dayton "PURE D. SUCKS" no beating around it in any way shape or form, but the changes that 94.5 have made has actually had me listening to it a little bit more. Might I add the morning show a yet younger than Z`s morning show is just a tad bit annoying AS HELL and sounds pretty much useless. This guy Clayton sounds like a David Spade = A SMART ASS THAT NOBODY LIKES, Quinn sounds like Chris Farley in the movie "TOMMY BOY" or all his movies for that matter = "A TOTAL AND COMPLETE (NOT A HALF OF ONE) A COMPLETE IDIOT" and then there`s this girl GINA, JESUS CHRIST....Can you say "A PORN STAR WHO WANTS TO BE FAMOUS"? I`ve been to their website and she isn`t even a blonde, yet she makes the so-called DUMB BLONDE sound like a rocket scientest. To sum it all up the MORNING MESS is just that or they should call themselves [EDIT] they sound like SESAME STREET with a juke box. Now the DRAKE SHOW on the other hand sounds a lot more rhythmic and fun as it should... or should I say the entire station should just go all the way rhythmic. If anyone knows what the "REAL" 94.5 was when it started, you`ll know that it was the station that no one could stop talking about because they did things the way the (LISTENER) would neverrr forget. For a long period of time that station took over Dayton on the rhythmic side. HAVE A GOOD DAY ALL ;)

[EDIT-profanity]

Wow the morning aren't that awful, but they are pretty boring. They are better than Z-93's show, but they consitantly lose to them as well. I think it won't be long before WDKF gets rid of the morning show. I am a big fan of E at nights on Channel. His show is crazy. Thge Drake Show isn't as crazy anymore, but it is still very good. All and all Channel is on there way to being good.
