94Q airchecks anyone?

Hi all,

I'm looking for old airchecks of 94Q, particularly from around '83-'89. Basically, I'll take as much as I can get if anyone has any. I grew up in Atlanta and was listened to 94Q religiously during that period. It's the reason I got into this, shall we say "insane" business.

Anyway, I'd love all dayparts, especially Gary McKee and Jeff McCartney...just as much stuff as I can get my hands on.

If anyone can hook me up, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Cheers!

Matt

Wish i could help you. I'd really like to hear a comprehensive history of Gary McKee myself. I didn't live here till the later part of his career. I heard that he was great in his day!<P ID="signature">______________

He was great. I started listening to him regularly in '84 when I was in the fourth grade. He was the first personality of whom I specifically became a fan. Before that, I listened to whatever mom or dad had on in the car...a lot of the late great Lynn Anthony, Bobby Harper when he was on WLTA, some Steve McCoy at Z-93, but we started listening to McKee and I got hooked.

I was a 9 or 10 year old kid and he did things on the air that naturally made me laugh. But the fact that I remember specifics about his show, the tricks he played on himself, the parody songs and the fact that he was a great one man morning show (with an excellent supporting cast I might add)...those things stick out in my mind today.

He and Jeff McCartney used to "switch cart labels on each other" and have weird things happen to them to catch them off guard on the air. Gary would switch one of McCartneys labels on his "oldie of the day," and instead of the song playing, it was dogs barking to the tune of the song.

McKee's show was great, and I'll never forget when they flipped 94Q to Star 94. That first day, they had this new morning show that just made me want to cry...not good at all compared to McKee.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but thinking about this stuff took me back a bit.

Gary Mckee was great in his day. I loved when he would play "Sleigh Ride" on a 90 degree August morning. Radio is quite different these days.
I have some old tapes of 94Q from the late 70's and into the 80's. I have some Mckee,McCartney,Dennis Winslow,Russ Davis and Neil Williamson. I will see if I can put something together for you. It might take awhile to compile.

Thank you! I've been trying to remember the name of the show for a while now. Train wreck indeed. I think McKeever worked in Memphis at FM 100 at some point.

Thanks man, that would be great. No big rush on it. I had a bunch of stuff that I had taped in the mid 80s, and over the years, I misplaced it.

Thanks again. You can e-mail me at [email protected] whenever you have stuff put together.
