95.1 FM

What ever happened to that Spanish LPFM on 95.1 I have been hearing
a station from College Station on the frequency lately.

Old Chicago

Assume you are talking about K236AR, which is a 41 watt translator for KFTG. Transmitter near Angleton.

I was occasionally hearing it in the Cy-Fair area a few months ago, when there was no tropo from KNDE or KYKR. Haven't heard any trace of it lately. Much better coverage than you might expect due to the high antenna (836 feet.)

The last month to 6 weeks there have been some big storms down there possible they took a lightening strike to the antenna maybe they ran out of money. Here in the Meyerland Willowbend area I could pickup this station just fine in the car but the last few weeks I have not heard it. I have never heard of station only running 41w with a 500+ antenna tower I have wondered how they were able to run this way

That "Candy 95.1" is a really good station. I wish they would upgrade so I could get them better in NW Houston.

They can't upgrade without some frequency realignments. KNDE is a C2, just outside the minimum co-channel spacing distance from C1's KYKR in B/PA and KGSX in the San Antonio market.

KNDE is already an upgraded station, as it was the old KTSR, a Class A on 92.1. Really no point in any further signal expansion from a market perspective.

I remember back in 2000 listening to 95.1 a pirate station out of SW Houston. It played Uncensored Rap all times of the day. It disappeared about a year later.

It was on 95.3. I remember hearing the station on Hwy 6 to Beechnut, Westheimer and Richmond Avenue east of Wilcrest. Needless to say, CBS engineers were not to happy about it because of interference to KIKK-FM 95.7 as second adjacency. Soon after, the pirate disappeared. I was back at KILT at the time.

Off air due to feedline problems. Should be back on next week.

That 95.3 had a strong signal hearing it from Bellaire at US 59 in my backyard on a cheap walkman! of course I had problems picking up 98.5 on it. When did that pirate shut down anyway? I don't remember hearing it at all during the new year of 2001.
