95.1......in cullman?

95.1 the rocket from hsv comes in pretty well in cullman.....but recently when you cross over onto highway 69 (off of highway 31) down to about the interstate (exit 304), something else is CLEARLY there. pirate radio anyone? if not, what is it?

It very well could be Tropo/E-Skip. I'm not familiar with either one, but they are different. Different things cause each to happen. That could be what it is. I doubt a pirate statrion would be THAT STUPID. Maybe it's someone running an LPFM with too much juice or a new translator.

No new translators or LPs on 95.1 anywhere near there, and there are no spots on the band for any such entity in Cullman.

Tropo and Es are possible, although unlikely. They would have been noticeable in more than one small area.

Did you get any programming or just a carrier? The nursing homes in Hanceville and Garden City could be running Companion Radio. I'd check on that before you start planning the direction-finding and staple gun party. :)

sounded more like old-style tv....only listened to about 5
minutes of it in the Ryans parking lot and it would come in
and out some - there were several places up and down that road
where it would be just almost dead carrier (with the rocket coming
in around it but just barely). very odd...

i've witnessed this on several occasions over the last 3 weeks.

the rocket is my 3rd preset too so that tells you how often i
go past there on my car radio.....

That would almost certainly be the Imagination feed of Companion Radio, which carries a lot of OTR programs that later popped up on early TV.

I knew Hanceville had it, but had no idea as to the frequency. Odd that they picked one that steps on a Class C Huntsville station, though.

Yeah, if you got it at Ryan's and it's from Hanceville as I suspect, it's getting out there. I'll have to tune to 95.1 the next time I'm up that way.
