95.1 Panama City On-Air Yet?

Hey, Northwest Florida folks...Jack wants to know if that new 95.1 signal (Ebro) is on-air near Panama City yet? If not, Jack loves July 4th barbecues. Love, Jack!

I know Jack,(and Faye, and Richard,too.)

What made Ebro qualify as a COL?? Me and a friend did some a-looking on the topographics online and found Ebro to be a dot in the middle of nowhere....

Don't know Jack, but 95.1 may have a tough time.
Looking at a predicted signal coverage map.
Their 1 MV/m (60 dBu) only reaches a portion of Panama
City Beach and does not reach Panama City proper at all.
Pushing a signal into the beach area CAN be tough.

#1 With The Dogs!

Ebro is home to the dog track. Otherwise, it's... well, a few houses and a Tom Thumb. Proof, again, that the whole COL concept is pure BS--an idea the FCC has allowed broadcasters to abuse for decades. (Uh, "WPGC, Morningside!"). Rumor has it that 95.1 will more likely feature Frank than Jack--as in Sinatra. Might be a good move if the signal turns out to be marginal--give 'em something they can't get on the other 16 FM stations--so they'll have to fine-tune the SOB. If they slap a broad-based contemp format like Jack on a weak signal, they'll be available for purchase within a year. Ain't enough diaries on PCB's West End to make a dent.

Seems more likely. With studios at Bay Point, a format for upscale
retirees maybe?

Adult Standards?

Yup--Frank, Tony, Barbara... 60's/70's MOR. Something along those lines. Stinking book don't matter--just sell the image. Even then, with Smooth Jazz and Wave both focused on 45-64, it ain't a slam dunk. But when you're the 17th FM in a market of ANY size (much less a market the size of Terre Haute) there ain't much left for the pickin'...

I guess you haven't heard Wave lately. It's focus is not 45-64 - more like 35-54... basically a Rock AC... But MOR is a tough sell... and most importantly - a stand alone vs. three clusters - no matter what the format is a tough sell.

Re: Adult Standards?

Actually I have heard Wave lately, and I'll betcha a beer at Hooters that their largest islolated 10-year demo is women 45-54; if it does well 35-44 it's only because both CHRs are aimed too young and are giving both Wave & Sunny too much room. To me Wave sounds like what a consultant would've called 35-54 five years ago. But, yeah, I agree with you on the bottom line: a standalone vs. three clusters has a tough row to hoe--and the Bay Point scenery won't help the AE out on the mean streets of Panama City!

Re: Adult Standards?

Jack has a daddy named Frank. Daddy is vacationing at Bay Point on PCB this July 4th weekend and thinks we'll be hearing some Dale "The Voiceman" Reeves sweepers any day now..."From Sinatra to Streisand, 95.1, Frank-FM". LOL!

I don't disagree that 45-54 women will probably be its best cell based on the existing cume. 45-64 stations don't play Styx, Simple Minds and U2. 40-49 is the real core with five years on the other side. Actually, you would've called it 25-54 five years ago - which is why I said 35-54.

Will be a tough sell...
