95.1 translator in Pickens

Any of y’all know how Audacy is feeding their 95.1 translator in Pickens for WSPA-FM? It sounds like a stereo in a room with a microphone up against the speaker. It sounds absolutely horrible. There’s also a loud echo chamber sound that it constantly has in the background. What the heck even is this? Not sure how something can sound so bad.

I mentioned a while back that the 101.5 translator in Anderson for WSPA-FM has a similar issue. I’m not even saying this from an audiophile standpoint — it’s grueling to listen to. None of Audacy’s other translators have sound issues.

At least it makes WYRD-HD2 and WFBC-HD4 sound good!

Just now getting around to this...

If the 95.1 / 101.5 signals for Magic are being fed thru the similar quality of WSPA-HD2 and WFBC-HD4 then that would explain it. How embarrassing for them, might as well just put Magic back on 98.9 (or move it to 93.3) and move the Planet to 106.3 / at least 93.3 could feed both the translators without much sound quality deterioration as the current setup. This is embarrassing for Magic and shows how far its come (gone) from its former, better days long ago.

BTW both translators are now listed to rebroadcast WLFJ so rebroadcasting Magic 106.3 technically isn't allowed, (update?) and now the 101.5 translator in Anderson has a CP to change frequencies to 95.9, wonder how/what change that'll bring?

Now that the parent station is in Bankruptcy maybe one or some of the stations will be sold soon.

Yep, completely agree except for putting Magic on 93.3 since The Planet has been beating them for the past year or more. I’m not sure why those translator signals sound so terrible. Summit’s 94.1 translator that rebroadcasts Hot 98.1 via WJMZ-HD4 sounds just as good as the main signal. Magic is just a symptom of the overall problem which is Audacy Greenville. They need new blood and minds in that building, not management and PD’s that have been there for over a decade while nothing improved or changing. They care about their news/talk format on 98.9 . WSPA-FM, and WFBC, are also-rans. WROQ does well but doesn’t take much effort.

I used to get a clear signal from Kiss 95.1 on Augusta Rd. and a decent signal down into Easley before that Pickens translator signed on. But translator interference seems to be the new normal, although in this case it is pushing beyond the fringe for WNKS, so no major gripe. And increased interference with Mix 107.9 in Greenville County as that LPFM seemed to have increased power last fall, although I thought they were at their limit. But somehow they definitely boosted their signal, although it basically just increased mutual interference on 107.9. And going into Charlotte, you now lose B-93.7 due to an interfering Bible network translator.

But agreed that Pickens translator coulld sound better. In terms of audio quality. Seems like they were just concerned with boosting WORD with the move to 98.9 and not that concerned with Magic anymore.
