95.1 WAYV sounds more and more Top 40 each day!

New Songs Now Playing

Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough
T.I. - Dead and Gone
Kanye West - Heartless
Diddy - Coming Home
Eminem/Rihanna - Love the Way You Lie
Timbaland - Carry Out
Ke$ha - Blow

They started replacing all there old version of songs with real versions finally!

Keri Hilson - Knock you down [added Kanye Verse]
Enrique - Tonight [added Ludacris Verse]
Usher - DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love [added Pitbull Verse]

It also seems that 99.3 Kiss Fm is going more Urban now.

I THINK THE MAIN REASON WHY WAYV IS MOVING TO TOP 40 IS BECAUSE OF WILD 102.7. WILD 102.7 IS GOING HEAD TO HEAD WITH WAYV AND WZBZ 99.3 WILD DOES MAKE FUN OF KISS AND WAYV ON THE AIR WITH VOICE IMAGING. I THINK THEY STOPPED EDITING THE SONGS BECAUSE OF WILD 102.7. WILD NEVER REMOVES LYRICS FROM THE SONGS. NOW I HOPE WSJO 104.9 WOULD STOP EDITING THE SONGS. I DON'T LIKE WHEN RADIO STATIONS REMOVE THE LYRICS, IS VERY ANNOYING TO ME. SO 95.1 IS MOVING FROM HOT AC TO TOP 40 AND 99.3 TO URBAN THAT'S TRUE I HAVE NOTICED TOO BECAUSE I LISTEN TO RADIO ALL THE TIME. I REMEMBER IN 2001 WAYV MOVED TO MORE TOP 40 DIRECTION BECAUSE OF 99.3 THE BUZZ BEING A DANCE STATION AT THAT TIME, THE SAME THING HAPPENNIG NOW AS FOR WILD 102.7 I HOPE THEY ADD MORE DANCE AND THROWBACKS AND I HOPE THEY REMOVE THAT TOP 40 REMIX AND REPLACE IT WITH ORIGINAL VERSION. TOP 40 REMIX KILLS DANCE RADIO NO ONE SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND THAT. IF YOU WANT DANCE RADIO TO SUCCEED PLAY ORIGINAL TOP 40/ DANCE POINT BLANK JUST LIKE THEY DO OVERSEAS, YOU COULD PLAY FEW REMIXES ON A MIX SHOW.

I coudn't disagree more TOMIE. Did u check out the ratings? Wild did nothing...period...why would WAYV change to beat a station that is no threat? I think WAYV wants to beat its own KISS 99.3...WAYV is Equitys baby...its easier to get advetisers to buy time on WAYV...however equity has the urban market covered..if it flipped KISS completely another company would take KISS 99.3's format and threaten WAYV's numbers. I think 95.1 is trying to beat KISS without letting KISS slip too low.
I was on WAYV in the 90s...The unsaid rule was no urban music..If FPG beat us in the books urban music was added to the playlist..the second we beat FPG and regained number one the urban tracts would disappear from the playlist..not gradualy either..immediatley...I think WAYV is playing the same game it always has .

WAYV has always had the urge to battle someone. This caused the station to have an image problem they have a hard time overcoming. Back in the 80's they were CHR and they were always doing the opposite of the old WBSS. If "Boss 97" leaned urban or rhythmic, 'AYV would go the other way...and visa-versa.

Once 'BSS dropped out in the '90's, 'AYV dropped to being a Hot-to Mainstream AC and went up against 'FPG, getting softer, forcing 'FPG hotter (that was the really bad book 'FPG had about thirteen years ago that caused the ouster of Dick Fenessey and John Speeny). Luckily, 'FPG got back on track quite quickly and has been relatively consistent ever since, but the battle continued into the '00's.

Now it's 'AYV vs SOJO. SOJO's a Hot AC that's gotten a bit hotter since coming down from Trenton. So 'AYV, in it's bid to never retain any sense of consistency, is going back to being a CHR in the hopes that SOJO will soften a bit and shave a point or so of of 'FPG. KISS will eventually go rhythmic, or possibly even full urban, to better complement 'TTH on ad buys, and to say that the combined KISS/'TTH audience is bigger than the competition (if they were complimentary to each other in the last book, they'd together have a 15.4 12+).

They may figure Wild 102.7 is not going to be around much longer since Atlantic is going bankrupt. They may even want to purchase one of the Atlantic stations.

They can't. FCC monopoly rules. They're at their limit. Was discussed on other boards.

equity owns way to many stations I don't think they are allowed to buy more radio stations they own 93.1 95.1 96.1 99.3 100.7 102.3 105.5 and 1340 am. I think wild 102.7 is not being programmed right they need to extend their playlist and begin to play original top 40/dance and recurrents and then they will do much better in ratings.
wild did very poor in the last book only got 1.5 a share they must change to survive. I know that they are new but I was expecting them to have done better in ratings. also to get more listeners I think they need to change their transmiter pattern from directional to non-directional to reach a bigger area; wayv has been very inconsistent radio station over the years never liked them, wayv speeds up their songs that's annoying to me that's another reason not to listen wayv.

Tomie..if Wild did it right it could have been a player...They started off with a eally bad mid day jock, bad ,repetitive, lazy imaging and relied too much on pop remixes...The dancehing could work in the market..it was programmed completely wrong here. The Buzz was doing very well in the ratings beforeit flipped to urban(which it did even better in the ratings). Hal's theory is interesting..I think mine was right but Hal has a point with the BOS FPG "wars"....Wow I loved BOSS 97..just saying..

WAYV Needs to be Retagged it is NOT Hot AC AT ALL. This is a straight up up CHR/Top 40

Diddy Coming Home
RIHANNA What's My Name? f/Drake
PITBULL Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)
KATY PERRY E.T. f/Kanye West
DRAKE Find Your Love

Not Hot AC Material.

WZBZ is Moving More Urban. But is STILL Rhythmic. I think they need to bring back The Buzz or a New name and Relaunch to a full Urban or have even more of an Urban lean then they already do.

Plus don't forget the music on CHR these days is almost completely white male free. White females are doing good, but white male groups, forget it, just Train and The Script and these are hanging around number 20. So really a Top 40 station has no choice but to play a lot of urban music. By urban I mean Pitbull, Bruno Mars, Taio Cruz, Usher, Chris Brown, T-Pain etc. I've never seen the charts this urban in my 47 years of listening to Top 40. Hope it's just a temporary thing.

I know, seems intentional at this point. Almost like it's a ghettoization of America (third world) when Top 40 is nothing but urban pushed by the music labels and radio stations.

There might be a reason for this. You know what young people say about young people that listen to radio today, "Only poor people listen to radio".

Google results: No results found for "Only poor people listen to radio".
adding "the" : 5 results (0.30 seconds) "Only poor people listen to the radio"

So who says that???

Every single one of those artists' big current hits is dancy pop, except Bruno Mars ("Grenade" is straight-up medium tempo Pop). Nothing urban about them. Usher's "More" is produced by the same guy (RedOne) that produced a lot of Lady Gaga's hits. Taio Cruz doesn't get a single spin on Urban.

If you want to say there's too much dance or rhythmic on the radio, OK, that's fair, but that's what's big right now.

What's not big is Urban. In the current Pop top 20, there's only one song that can legitimately be called Urban, Diddy/Dirty Money's "Coming Home"
