95.3 has signed on

95.3 (the future 95X) has signed on. The signal is pretty good for a translator. I live in North Durham and get it well. They are rebroadcasting G105 right now. Any word on when rock returns to the Triangle?

I think right now they are running a Premium Choice playlist, not sure if they will change that or not since they have Local jocks. Hopefully they are allowed to program the station the way they want to.

I heard a lot more indie last night and a lot more harder rock now. Last night they were leaning more in the direction of the fantastic Alt Nation on XM ... today it sounds like a typical southern rock station with Disturbed, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, ETC. The change between last night and now is surprisingly quite noticeable.

The problem with rock radio stations now in general is that there is a big difference between the harder stuff and the indie/experimental stuff. I'd be willing to bet that the two really don't mix well for most listeners.

I wonder, if in the future, 95X will add one of those Friday/Saturday night metal shows, even if it's the syndicated Full Metal Jackie? I'm hoping this is a good omen for the Triangle, especially with bringing larger summer tours, such as Rockstar Mayhem Fest, Rockstar Uproar Fest, Ozzfest, etc.

Why are we watching this thing like it's going to last any longer than a year or two?

Because this HD2 to analog translator deal the FCC approved, like it or not, at least provides the opportunity to provide niche formats to a given area. Win for radio stations who get an additional "station", win for the FCC who can say they have tangible results that these new translators "serve the public interest"

More importantly, there also aren't a lot of formats that either aren't currently covered and/or any formats that CC Raleigh haven't bungled as of recent.

held the signal from hillsborough to rocky mount..not too shabby for 250 watts...better than most class A's in fact...

Asheville, NC has AAA over-the-air for this reason.

I don't know whether the Charlotte standards station is still on HD, but something is allowing that station to just continue on with no listeners.

What's the deal with the Pirate Station in Charlotte???

Did you guys know that they're playing the exact same songs, i. e minute by minute all day long, as 106.5 The End in Charlotte? The jocks are different, and so are the commercial breaks, but the playlist is exactly the same...

A week or two ago I heard "Pumped Up Kicks" on WEND. I haven't heard that since Newtown and really didn't think anyone had the guts to play it anymore. Is that really Premium Choice corporate or is 95.3 just playing whatever logs are generated for WEND?
