95.3/Hernando

Word on the skreet is that 95.3 in DeSoto County will be dropping oldies presumably this month. Word is that they will go with some flavor of (yes, you guessed it) Urban after the change. Oldies-based urban is the current thinking.

Apparently, the owners have yet to understand that the way to make this thing make money is to program and sell to DeSoto County. But, I digress.

I agree... been there done that and all.
Desoto/Tate county is a much bigger place than it was back in 1993-1994 when I was at 95.3

They are trying so hard to make in a Memphis station, that I doubt it could ever be. and yes, i know the signal doesn't get into memphis well at all.

but, the company that owns them is only interested in upgrading, moving and selling.. so WHO KNOWS whats in store...

First has been successfull with some huge moves and upgrades. It all takes time though. Some of the ones in Texas took years and one involed 18 stations if I remember correctly.
95.3 is a real challenge with very close 1st and 2nd adjacents all around it and those are sandwiched in also.

It's not just adjacents...

I have seen a study on 95.3. They are actually short-spaced with Brownsville, TN co-channel. The 40 dBu contours overlap at Arlington. Yikes.

I would never say that 95.3 cannot upgrade. But... this is about as tough a case as you'll ever get. Besides the Hurculean task of upgrading or moving the seemingly unmovable, you would most likely need to get a new frequency allocated to Coldwater, since you'll probably move to a new COL.

It's going to be a Class A in DeSoto county for a long, long, long time.

> Wow. Programming geeenyuss!

Especially once one looks at DeSoto County census data. DeSoto is just 11.40% African American.

I suppose this underscores the desire of the owners to rimshot Memphis, despite lack of a 60 dBu north of about Graceland.

Yikes.

I didn't mean to leave out brownville i forget not everyone here may not know its even out there...

can brownsville move at all? thats one thing i have not looked at

I engineered the upgrades for WVIM, Brownsville, Charleston, Ms,
Amory, MS and Corinth, Ms. in one package. I can say they all very tight, to each other and to numerous considerations. Never say never, but it would obviously take a lot of $$$ to make something happen...My 10c worth...
