95.3 The Bear

maybe Citadel will move the "X" to 95.3 now? Makes sense, right? lol

Seriously, though, may be a format change on the horizon. Does Tuscaloosa really need that many country stations? They already have WTXT and "Catfish Country", plus they get WZZK, WNCB, and "The Bull" out of Birmingham. (Did I leave any out?)

Can 99.5 or 690 be heard in Tuscaloosa? Seems like they are just duplicating coverage.

In Montgomery they took it off of FM and it is now only heard on AM 740. Used to be on 95.1 The Fox (since John Boy and Billy promote the fire out of Nascar).
______________

Well 99.5 carries Alabama football but that doesn't stop ZBQ from running the games either. I don't think 690 reaches Tuscaloosa. Maybe they're keeping the competition local. From what I understand (and I could be wrong), no other station in Tuscaloosa has NASCAR.

WJOX does reach Tuscaloosa very nicely in the day. At night, I'm not sure how strong it is. As far as Alabama football coverage is concerned, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa are considered separate markets, so there shouldn't be any real conflict there.
______________

At night, WJOX's signal (500 watts, I think) barely makes it past Hoover to the south, and past Bessemer to the southwest. It can't be picked up at all in Tuscaloosa.

95.3 The Bear and WJOX and Rock 99.5 are all owned by Citadel. That's why 95.3 The Bear got the rights, I'm sure Citadel wouldn't have granted rights to anyother station in Tuscaloosa. Keepin it in the family. Good for them! I love NASCAR.
