95.5 now legendary country

from 955thehawk.com

At 95.5, we've been asking you how we could build a better Hawk...and you weren't shy about telling us!

Thanks for all your calls and e-mails, and we hear you... loud and clear... you want more of the legendary country, the real country music that you can't hear anywhere else.

You want it? You got it.

Enjoy your new and improved 95.5. The radio station built by Hawk Nation. Welcome to LEGENDARY COUNTRY, 95.5 The Hawk!

Hmmm, If they were listening to me they would have heard me saying

Give me Techno-Dance tracks or Give me 24 hour Polka music.

:D ;D

I guess Legendary Country is alright. I grew up with it anyway.

Branding a radio station to "the artists" instead of the genre of music would make better sense to me.

Country Legends - 95.5 The Hawk

Agreed.

Though it kind of makes me wonder -

Country Legends stations, as these are called, tend to primarily attract listeners mostly age 55 and above. That's not a salable demo. Yeah, it's a good strategic move vis a vis WCOL-FM and its' younger lean, but not from a sales perspective.

Nobody's proved yet you can win a country battle anymore by playing the old stuff...or perhaps WHOK no longer wants to battle. In many cases, much of the older stuff unless it is extremely well researched drives listeners away.

It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Wasn't WHOK known as Country Legends K 95.5 prior to the Wilks change over when they blew it up and made it "95.5 The Hawk -- Everything Country"

I suspect Wilks is leaning 95.5 Classic since they have 107.1 Wink as "new country" maybe they are concerned that their loosing to many listeners on 107.1 to 95.5 as it did play currents in recent months..

Ofcourse 107.1 is plegued by a class A signal out of Circleville.

Yes...and, for some reason, it seems as though WHOK has to try and re-invent itself every couple of years to get the market's attention. Then, the ratings go up for a while and, since very little is apparently spent on promotions and marketing, then the inevitable slow slide down begins again.

But as you say that they have been really steady at around 2.7 for the last year

I can get 107.1 HD1 and 107.1 HD2 just fine at my east side downtown Columbus apartment. Then I do live on the fourth floor and use a better passive VHF antenna.

Well whats the difference between Legendary Country and Classic Country format?

What is the point of this thread? Is it about WHOK's new imagining or is there difference between the Legendary Country and Classic Country format????

Yeah...but a couple of years back, they were around a 3.5 to a 4. Hence my point...every couple of years, they have to reinvent themselves.

Just noticed 95.5 is back to "Playing Everything Country" (at least per the website -- I'm not in town now and declined to install Silverlight to listen online).

When did they switch back?

try radioheardhere.com to listen to stations you can't pick up without silverlight.

Well I install the new I Heart Radio app for my iPod Touch. Now I can keep my Mac Mini off to listen to talk radio. I can listen to KTLK, KKGN and KPOJ on my iPod Touch.

...I'll just lie back and think pleasant thoughts. Chicken pot pie... Chocolate covered RAIsins... EEGlazed Hammmmm... They think I'm crazy... But I know better... It is not I who am crazy... It is I who am MAD!... Didn't you hear 'em? Didn't you see the crowds?!! Oh my beloved ice cream bar... How I love to lick your creamy center... eeyaaarghruch... eeyaarghrunch... eeyaarghrunch... And your oh-so-nutty chocolate covering... You're not like the others... You like the same things I do... Wax paper... Boiled football leather... Dog breath... WE'RE NOT HITCHHIKING ANYMORE... WE'RE RIDING!!
