95-5 THE BEAT

Now here's a subject no one talks about. What do we think of The Beat? Remember when they signed on, Atlanta had a new CHR to hit the airwaves and Todzilla, and Stick were apart of the airwaves shortly after 10,000 songs in a row debuted. You don't hear much about them on here, thought i would throw the match into the fire pit :)

The current Beat is certainly not the same station that had Stick and Toddzilla. The original Beat in 1999 and 2000 was CHR/Pop with some emphasis on rhythmic product. When Q100 signed on with CHR/Pop in 2001, The Beat flipped to a full-blown CHR/Rhythmic format.

When 95.5 The Beat signed on 1999 it sounded a lot like the old Power99 that signed off in '92. They played a lot of upbeat material with a smattering of remixes throughout all dayparts, not just evenings and weekends. You used to hear several different versions of 'Nsync, BSB, Jessica Simpson, etc. It was considered a very 'fun' station. Today's 95.5 is considered a V-103 for white peeps.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider it a Hot 107.9 for white people? :p

Naaaaw not HOT 107.9 CHRles. HOT 107.9 actually parties just about every night of the week, not just weekends and throws concerts. They also play new music first, have more than 1 mixshow dj and don't lie about being "1 for Hip-Hop."

I remember when the "Beat" first hit the airways,( A friend of mine built the transmitter plant) and I really enjoyed the music and I'm an oldies and standards listener for the most part, but enjoyed the music very much on 95.5. NOW....CAN'T STAND IT!!! Over the months and years since it came on the station has turned into a pile of urban and hip hop filth. Way too go COX!!

Exactly, like I stated above, it is a complete waste of a great frequency. The signal sucks so bad where I live it does not really matter. Virginia Highland area.

I get a real lauigh at white people trying to talk urban. I thought Murf Dawg was a joke but then CJ joined him. Give me a break she should be an actreess with that kind of dialect. Why do I guess she talks nothing like that off the air. But she is hot if she just shut her mouth.

I enjoyed their mix of music a few years ago. They would mix contemporary urban hits with older music such as Vanilla Ice and Sir Mix A Lot. They seemed to change drastically after 97.1 Jamz flipped. I don't expect this station to improve as long as they are pulling in the numbers. The only good thing about this signal is Power 95 on their HD2 signal...much better variety than Star or Q100 and a lot of 80's and 90's music thrown in.

The very day Cox flipped 97.1 JAMZ to River, The Beat became "#1 for Hip-Hop." I guess Cox feels they can pull Urban listeners from HOT and VEE along the white STAR 94 and Q100 fans??? What happened with former V103 nightguy Tosswaid? Wasn't he doing weekend shifts over at The Beat?

I agree with LouisNatl about WBTS pulling in the numbers. This is a station whose audience cumes averages around 590,000 listeners per TSL, has a commanding lead in the 12-17 demos, and is top ten among 18-34s and 18-49s.
